steelmillworker-That would be a question to ask the PTO I am not sure why they are separate. I do know that they work together on things throughout the year like SCRIP. My family and I have supported activities presented by both groups.

labworker-I think that if there is a fire in the winter the Newark kids will do the same thing that the Orfordville and Footville kids will do, go outside! I am not overly concerned by something happening "way out in the country" we are serviced by the same volunteer fire department as Orfordville and have 3 of the EMS personnel living in Newark township. We have had to call the EMS to come to the school this year and the response time was around 15 minutes.

I would also like to know why we are considered "whiners, and cry babies" when we speak out about saving our school and when people from the other schools speak out they are not? We are all Parkview School District and I for one would like us to all come together and act like adults and do what is best for our kids!

stayingreal-yes I am a newark parent obviously, I also live within 5 minutes of the Newark School, and my kids ride the bus for an hour and have never had a problem with that and never complained. My concern is how much more time will be added on by driving these kids to Footville. I would like to see all the kids in one location so that we can stop all of this animosity. Lets think about our kids please! I would also like to know where all this hate for our community came from. We certainly we helpful to you Footville families when they wanted to close your school several years ago when parts of it were condemned. I believe many of our Newark families came to support all of you in keeping your school open then, why are we not getting the same support from you? Maybe if we wouldn't have helped you out at that time we wouldn't be having this discussion right now. I suppose this is all our fault.

garyprimer-If those things do not need to be done I would like to know why they were listed as "top priority" on the maintenance referedum that was on the ballot last year. I understand that all buildings need maintenance another great reason to consolidate and have one building.

Thanks vatoloco!

One question, if they leave Footville open instead of consolidating the schools would you want your 4 year old child riding the bus from the stateline all the way to Footville??? How about the fact that Footville needs a new boiler, roof, and windows? While Newark does not. That would make the fiscally responsible decision to be leave Newark open until enrollment allows. We could put the younger grades in Orfordville and move the 5th & 6th grades to Newark that way none of the younger kids are on the bus for so long.

I had lots of school pride and the High School I graduated from had 12 portable classrooms. I was also on the honor roll, went to college and have a really good job! Like I stated earlier bricks and mortar don't make the education!

It seems to me after attending several meetings that the board is doing what they feel is best for the Parkview School District. There is money that will be saved by not haveing staff being paid to go to three different buildings. If we have all the kids in one central location all teachers in the district will be in one building and can collaberate together give our kids a great education. I would also like to point out that the "portable classrooms" have been misrepresented. These classrooms will not be "trailers" sitting out behind the school. It is one modular building that will have 8 classrooms inside with a hallway down the middle. I would like to see the referendum pass and bring everyone together so that maybe we can get past all of this animosity and truly be Parkview School District. If the referendum should fail I have no problem continuing to send my children to school in the modular classrooms. It is not bricks and motar that make an education, is the wonderful staff we have that will do it.

Financially Brodhaed and Evansville are no better off than we are. Yes they have newer buildings but I feel that we are moving forward. We have improved technology at all of our schools with SMART Boards and computers. We have also raised out ACT scores. I don't disagree that they have nice looking buildings, they do, but does having a new building give them a better education? Don't we teach our children that "looks are only skin deep, its what is on the inside that matters".

Thank you John Deere. There were several good ideas presented to the board at last nights meeting. I hope that they take them all into considerartion. We need to make sure that we are doing what is best for our kids. Closing a school, be it Footville or Newark is not in the best interest of our kids or our communities. Lets all get out there and promote what we have; a great district filled with involved parents, caring staff, and wonderful students.

On Parkview facing tough cuts

Labworker-It is obvious to me that you were not at the school board meeting last night, if you were you would know that the discussions that were brought up involved keeping both schools open. We as a district should all work together to find solutions so that no community is in fear of losing their neighbohood school. And for the record, there are 80 kids at Newark Elementary. From the paperwork I received at last nights meeting, with the exception of next year's 1st grade class, the class sizes are equitable across the district. So to say Newark has more one-on-one is just not true. I strongly encourage you to attend school board meetings so that you can have the facts.

Resident-I like your idea of NES and FES being 4K-5th, OES 6,7,8th, and PHS 9,10,11,12. Another option for the board to consider. I also agree that we need to take a look at the number of Administrators and open contracts and discuss wage freezes before we cut any more from textbooks, and technology. Let's think about the 984 kids in this district that deserve a great education.
