On Ryan’s opponent calls for taxes, spending

Shame on the Gazette for calling him "Ryan's opponent" rather than using his name. That reeks of a conspiracy to intentionally reduce Heckenlively's name recognition.

Driving on our interstate is pretty hectic and often leads to road rage, but there is a simple and effective solution - use Autobahn rules! Everyone should keep right except to pass. It should be the law and it should be strictly enforced. Works great and helps keep people focussed on driving.
On Janesville City Council backs sidewalk plan

book9 is right! Vote everyone off the Council at the first opportunity just as a matter of principal. The "sidewalk to nowhere" that wiexguy mentions is indicative of just how stupid things can get.
TJRockCounty sounds like someone with a government job.
On Milton Burger King employee robbed while making night deposit

Don't those deposits get made through a drive-up machine? If so, how would you get pushed to the ground? It's goofy to have a business procedure that involves someone walking on foot late at night with a large amount of cash.

Oh, "I understand that the greatest challenge facing our state is helping to foster business development to get Wisconsinites back to work,” Hixson said in the release.
I met with Kim Hixson in person over a year ago to discuss some no-kidding, real ways to increase hiring by small businesses that would work immediately. He totally blew me off! He's an idiot. I'm voting for Evan Wynn.

Yea!! Somebody experienced running as an independent candididate!
The most important thing we can do as citizens who want to keep out great country in tact is to break the two-party political system by refusing to vote for any Republicans or Democrats in November.
Good for you, Bob Ziegelbauer! I hope everyone in his district votes for him just because of this wise, patriotic move.

If 200 people attended the conferences for $80,000, that's only about $400 per person -- not too expensive if they were useful. Then there is the lost time from work, which probably cost more. It would be interesting get some feedback from those who attended regarding the value of the experience.
On Panel recommends ways to curb Wis. drinking

This is very interesting and worth an investigation. This article was up-front news and had a very active, intelligent set of reader comments going. Then it quickly disappeared from the on-line edition. The headline is not posted and all the comments are gone. What kind of censorship is the Gazette involved in here -- and who is responsible?
On Madison mayor says anti-business reputation hurts

The whole state bureacracy is an impediment to business. The Department of Workforce Development, in particular, kills small businesses. I know many previous small business owners who will never have employees again because the requirements for running a legitimate business of 50 or less people are nearly impossible to comply with. The whole system is geared for dealing with companies the size of Wal-Mart, which doesn't fit small entrepreneurial start-ups well at all.
Want to fix our huge unemployment problem? We need to make some dramatic changes to how DWD and DOR treat tiny businesses as a prerequisite, or it will never get better. Too many small busisiness owners have gotten burned and aren't going there again.
P.S. - How many elected officials and "civil servants" with tax-funded jobs do you think have ever really owned a small business where they actually signed payroll checks? I'll bet the percentage is nearly zero. They have no clue how badly the system is screwed up! They think it's all just fine.
