On Magnolia to appeal ruling on farm

Lincoln—You seem like a nice person and your family has rights too. And yes, I have tried to talk to Dave. Both publicly and privately. He gets mean and dismissive before I can even finish my concern. I tried proactively for months before I realized the complete stupidity of what I was doing. He was not going to change. So I decided to get a sense of humor about the situation. I think we have to agree to disagree on Dave. He doesn’t represent our 800 residents. He does represent a chosen few. I do not believe this lawsuit is not about clean water. As Kurt Bartlett said, we have the right to monitor the water now. Without the lawsuit. This is about winning. I love to win too. But I resent paying for a battle because when there are questionable motives at play.

What is weird is the only time Dave is concerned about a safe environment is when he can give a poke at Larson Acres.

He didn't do anything for public safety when we had a foot of water in the town hall basement. He was quoted in the local paper as saying that he didn’t plan to address the issue. He didn’t organize a clean up until a local paper publicized the poor condition of the basement and a petition was being routed (with pictures) by a group of concerned residents.

The town hall was cleaned up but the town board punished the local paper for running the story by withdrawing all public notices from their paper. A Magnolia resident had to repeatedly offer to pay for the notices himself before the notices were again submitted. Not sure if he is still paying….

I am a resident of Magnolia and I can guarantee he doesn’t care about me or mine. Next time I try and talk to him about an issue that is important to me maybe I will introduce myself as a resident of Wisconsin. Couldn’t hurt!!

I bet BigMike is a coach. This kind of disrespectful attitude to players and parents is why schools need the policy!!

On Town of Magnolia candidates

BeReal1--Give the poor guy a break. What else does Dave have to talk about?
-He keeps saying he won't build a Town Hall. I haven't met any candidate in Magnolia who would spend money right now to build a new Town Hall. The request for a feasibility study was an issue from the last election….
-He is all for being fiscally responsible but he voted to award an expensive roadside mowing contract without asking for bids. And it didn't go to the person who informally offered to do it for the least amount of money. When asked about the lack of a formal bidding process we were told it wasn’t “legally required”. Legally Required, no. Fiscally Responsible, yes.
-He votes to budget and award the cemetery mowing job without any guidelines on how often to mow or any maximum amount of money we are willing to spend. When asked if there should be a maximum expense so we can budget we were told “how would we know now how often the grass should be mowed?” We have teenagers deciding how much the mowing will cost the taxpayers.
-This board as a whole has little financial control. Magnolia doesn’t get bids unless legally required, we pay and/or over pay bills without understanding what we are paying for, we did the Town accounting legally incorrect for years even though our clerk/treasurer has a lot of experience and education on the subject and we show very little understanding of the business side of the township.
-When dealing with the budget and other strictly financial issues, Dave has no input. I don’t think he understands the spreadsheets or what is being discussed. Which leads to my final point…..
-And MagnoliaResident’s favorite Dave comment...it was only a "thimble full" of pot.

On Eight area candidates have criminal convictions

I too welcome unbiased eyes at the meeting.

Thank you for proving my earlier point. Because I am not a fan of Dave then I must be...

-against water quality
-for 400 foot wind turbines
-for poor property values
-uncaring
-for money
-for power
-rich
-own land

I never occurs to you that I just don't like the way the guy treats some of the people. No one in this township can have an opinion that doesn't toe the town board line without being labeled the above. It makes me sick.

It is interesting how someone’s perspective of a situation can be so different.

I go to most meetings, seldom say anything but listen closely. In general, though there have been some exceptions, I think most residents bring up good questions and issues in a respectful manner. What I see is that Dave Olsen will not consider anything brought up by a resident that doesn’t agree with him 100 percent.

I find Dave Olsen demeaning, he mocks residents and spends a lot of time avoiding straight forward questions. I see the escalation in negativity because of the way he responds to some of the residents. I am not personally vested in the current issues but I find the meetings upsetting and disturbing because of the way Dave Olsen treats people, not because of the residents in attendance.

I see residents wanting to get involved in the process, understand why we do things and help drive change. You don’t have to be elected to do this. Some of these residents have helped drive positive changes in the last two years. They too should be recognized. I take my hat off to them.
