Wow PBR, that's both a generalized and ignorant statement you made.
What does getting up at 6:00am to work have anything to do with obesity?
My 13 year old and I go for a run every day around 7pm. He gets up at 6:30am to get ready for school to be at the bus stop at 7:30am We're both not obese. We live in the city of Greendale.

Given some of the technology coming out, I think the print media has the same opportunity that the movie/music industry has chosen to drag its heels on.
I could definitely see an opportunity for the print media to subsidize devices like the Amazon Kindle DX (http://www.amazon.com/Kindle-Wireless-Re...) to subscribers and deliver their content that method. Sure the initial cost for purchasing and supporting the device might be high, but I think over-all, you'll find yourself keeping your print business alive and well in the coming decade.
Heck, take the example of subsidizing the DX, you could let the subscriber know that much like the multitude of uses that our paper had when it was on print, you can use our Kindle DX to download books/articles as well with only one device! Could even work out a deal with Amazon providing a discount or something to subscribers. The possibilities are vast.
If the Gazette came to me and said, "For $150 and a 1 year/$15.00 per mo contract, we'll give you this Kindle DX to send you our paper." I'd sign up immediately.
On ‘Deadbeat dads’ is term unfair to caring fathers

I will say this. I have a stepson from my wife's previous marriage. He's 13 now. Last time he saw his dad was when he was 18 months old. The guy ran off to marry another woman with 5 kids because as he said, "I never wanted that kid. You did(meaning my wife)".
Every once and awhile we'll intercept his tax refund or get a 8 dollar check. Every time we put it in a savings account for him for college.
Is her ex wrong for not paying? Sure. Do we let it get to us. Hell no. We struggle through bills and put away what we can for him. We are there for him when he has questions. We even discussed adopting him this year as we finally got the money together to do so.
So it is my opinion that while it is easy to sit and blame deadbeat parents for not paying, I think what could be best done is to try to rise above the anger and jealousy and just work on making your kid's life as good as you can. They'll respect you more when they grow up.
I will close my comment by saying that I don't expect my advice to be easy to do. If it was easy, this wouldn't be an news story.
Nothing in this world worth doing ever comes easy.

I'm still amazed he wasn't even arrested. Who else ever gets charged with a felony and not arrested. Amazing.

I'd hope so too, but it really doesn't show on CCAP that they even arrested him or filed to freeze any assets. Here's to hoping that they do so.

I know this is a little late in the game, but it appears as if there was a bit of impropriety on the part of Mr. Keirns. Check out his CCAP entry filed yesterday:

Wow, it must feel great to sit there behind your computer and make such negative comments.
My personal favorites were the "can't leave without the cases of beer" or the "Well maybe they're behind on their rent."
Those are their possessions. Who cares if it's 4 cases of beer or 4 boxes of beanie babies, or 4 cans of soup? It's their possessions, and they have to move them.
Who cares if they might be behind on their rent, there's no excuse to treat people in that manner.
The last topic I'll discuss in this is the mold in the bathroom. Here's my guess as to what happened in there. The people in there have lived in miserable conditions for so long they gave up trying. Feeling trapped because there's few options of where to go, they stay in the building hoping for a change in luck. It's tough. I know that I have just given up on doing something when I felt as if it was futile, but I'm sure the people who are mocking the tenants have lived a perfect life with no serious setbacks or problems.
People and their glass houses. Merry Christmas.
