On Is Koshkonong district sailing wise course?

Why would they not generate power at the Dam? Even a small profit of $25k to $50k a year would put a currently empty powerhouse and a low-head spillway to work for their taxpayers.
*
Googling Lake Koshkonong shows that this newspaper endorsed finishing their water level dispute at the State Supreme Court, so if that brings finality, then what is the danger there?
*
Seems their leadership is being fairly progressive and planning to the future with their modest experimental project to dredge and use the lake bottom material to improve fish habitat and return shoreline to protect another wetland area.
*
Heck, they even gave an award to the DNR Fish Biologist.
*
THose people vote every year to tax themselves, presumably after hearing where their tax dollars will be spent. Imagine if school districts, city councils and county boards were only that transparent.
On Paul Ryan’s move sets other players in motion

Returning to the content of the article -
Paul Ryan won because he was a fresh young face with energy to accomplish things in DC.
*
He won because he was not a sitting state legislator, looking to move up the political food chain.
*
He won because he was not looking to "be" something, but rather to "do" something.
*
He won because he was not looking for a title, or to a part of the "club" of Congress.
*
Now, contrast that with Tommy Thompson;
*
Tommy will be 71 when the election for Kohl's Senate seat is determined,
*
His entire adult life, from the time he graduated from college, he has lived off the public teet - serving as a state legislator, then becoming WI's longest serving governor, then a Bush Cabinet secretary
*
All the time, he has pondered running for the next office, US Senate, President, Mayor of Elroy...
*
Now that he is "working" in the private sector, where he is simply cashing in on his past government titles, he wants to be "back in the game"
*
To Tommy, serving is a game, and now he wants to "be" someone again
*
Tommy had his day in the sun and has conducted himself with great embarrassment since leaving the governor's office
*
Compare that to the dignity Russ Feingold has handled his defeat, or how Paul Ryan passed on the open Senate seat, by saying he does not want to spend his entire adult life in Congress.
*
Compare the photos of Paul Ryan and Tommy Thompson...the country needs energy and ideas and that is not the visage of the former governor.

Once Tommy determines he cannot endorse Paul Ryan's Medicare plan, the Tea Partiers will look for someone else and Tommy will be left as the professional insider among new faces. Not a good place to be in 2012.

This is precisely why parents and property taxpayers are upset; How do parents teach it is not OK to run away from responsibility when elected lawmakers run away and are then praised by opinion leaders and school teachers?
*
Is this not a "taxation without representation" teaching moment?
*
And remind me again why WI has over 400 school districts, each with its own highly paid superintendent? Why does each and every school need its own highly paid principal and vice principal?
*
And what do school boards do, other than spend the great percentage of their time negotiating teacher contracts - they finish one, and they begin working on the next contract. All the while being elected to their positions by the very professional union edu-crats that reap the benefits of collective bargaining.
*
Take an audit of every school board in WI and I would predict the great majority come from a public union background.
*
And the tech schools? MATC is spending $100+ MILLION of tax dollars to expand campuses, yet there is no elected school board to oversee their ciriculums and facilities.
*
Given the direction of this blog, I am not convinced we benefit from teachers with 20+ years in the classroom -- perhaps the key is more turnover to keep the classroom fresh and free from the flavor this blog promotes.

Like a few pits here in Kenosha Co, that mine was NEVER operated legally. How can it be today?
*
Jobs? The mine will not create a single new job - who among us will buy a new quad dump truck on the hope and promise that existing haulers cannot handle capacity?
*
And according to that map, isn't that the location of my ole hometown's well water and pumping stations?

Tragedy aside - reopen and staff Lions Beach. It is a treasure the city has abandoned.

On Lake District OKs small dredge project

I just looked at their website - RKLD has not been raising the special charge, besides, according to state statutes, electors vote on their tax.
*
The permitting agencies are partners in the experimental dredging that was proposed, according to RKLD.org

You both need to read a bit more - facts can be pesky little details.
