On Laughter (And Graduation) In The Rain

Posted on June 14 at 10:12 a.m. ( Suggest removal )

Jim, I can see it all again in my mind as I read your blog. Even after sitting on blankets in the car so we didn't soak the seats and wringing out our clothes at home, I still agree with my comment. This is the best graduation ever! I'm sorry some of the kids didn't see it that way. Life can get too serious at times. And sometimes you just have to laugh at what life throws at you! Best of Luck to the Class of 2010!!!

On DISCOVERING DEMOCRACY BORN at Milton High School!

totellthetruth: As a parent of one of these bright students, I am very proud my child has the opportunity to participate in our country's Democracy in action. Don't we all want our children to have it better than we did. Learning about how our democracy works is one step towards this goal. This includes everything, the good, the bad and the contoversial. Thanks Mr Crofts!

On Case of girl charged in teen's death moved to juvenile court

I do not agree with only a slap on the wrist. Ashlee has been getting in trouble for a few years now. But I don't agree with those who say lock her up and throw away the key. This is still a young person who has been dealt a difficult hand in life. We all agree with the poor parenting she's received. But don't forget she also lost her little brother in a terrible child vs car accident several years ago. A trauma like that is difficult enough for an adult to cope with. But being an 8 or 9 year old child when something like this happens. Then not receiving any real support or counseling in the aftermath. I can't say I'm surprised Ashlee has found herself in a mess of legal/drug problems. But she is not the only liable for this tragedy.

I think the Gazette should find a more flattering picture of the Board President, Mary Burke!

On Evil Eastsider

Posted on January 4 at 5:48 p.m. ( Suggest removal )

My family moved to Janesville when I was a toddler. We first lived on the southside. A few years later moved to the northeast side before it became "fashionable". As a newlywed our first house was on the southside. When it came time to decided do we redo the roof and siding on our 20+ year old house or actually build on the land we bought on the northside, we chose to build. My girls are in the Milton schools. I never felt particularly attached to being a north or southsider. I am a Craig graduate who fell in love and married a Parker graduate. I am proud to say I am a Janesvillian. Is the "sider" thing really important?

On Wis. gov signs tougher drunken driving law

So, it is only a misdemeanor to drive drunk with a minor child in the car? I don't suppose Child Protective Services will be called because it's ONLY a misdemeanor. Who is writing these bills? I think we have more drunks in the legislature than we thought!!!

On United Way campaign surpasses halfway mark

I don't think the use of a beloved Janesville icon was the best way the United Way could advertise their fundraising campaign. I don't care for the United Way using my employer in an attempt to force a donation from me and my coworkers. I donate to charities regularly throughout the year (ECHO, St. Judes, Cancer research) and do not appreciate the high pressure tactics used by the United Way.

On Janesville council discusses trash options

If we can return to the topic for a moment. I question why our town has recycling and many of the places we accept trash from do not have the same requirements?????? Why are others able to fill up our landfill with recyclables and we are being environmentally responsible???
