The demographics on liberals show that they are much more educated than any other group. If you have not taken advanced coursework, or have become self educated, and are not rich, but are a republican, consider the fact that you may have been duped by the "trickle down theory". And if you believe that, why don't we go out to dinner, I'll let you pay, and promise you that some day you'll get your money back if you become rich too, and you were just lucky I let you eat dinner too. Don't worry, it will trickle down. Yes, we can all be rich and someday your prince will come so that's why you should pay a higher tax rate than millionnaires.
On How will mining bill help Wisconsin?
Posted on February 4 at 12:13 p.m. ( Suggest removal )
This mining bill is meant to benefit Gogebic and is weakening environmental standards in order to entice them into mining our resources. This article below from the Green Bay Gazette explains more. I have to wonder how "significantly detrimental" is defined. What a bunch of bahooey.
GREEN BAY — Republicans will soon introduce a bill to fast-track mining permits in Wisconsin. This bill is intended to benefit Gogebic Taconite, an out-of-state mining corporation, in its efforts to develop an iron mine south of Lake Superior.
Gogebic Taconite officials contend they would be conscious of protecting the environment, but insist that Wisconsin’s environmental regulations be weakened before they pursue permits for the mine. In reality, legislation being crafted by the GOP not only would weaken protections against adverse mining impacts, but also open loopholes to discharge waste, fill wetlands, develop permanent structures on lakes and streams and remove large quantities of surface and ground waters.
The Penokee Hills in northwest Wisconsin, the intended site, is one of the most pristine areas remaining in Wisconsin. Tourism, hunting, fishing and logging are major economic forces in that area. The mine will bring some new jobs to the region, but most of those are specific, highly skilled jobs likely not opened to area locals. The potential for loss of jobs due to environmental damage exceeds the potential new jobs that could be created. Please urge your legislators to vote against this bill.

Sigma40 you crack me up. Of course people are so easily led down the wrong path and it's wrong to try - and try the Tobacco Industry did.
So having 80% of the American men in the U.S. smoking cigarettes in the 1950s is just because all of those men (who all died young) decided to start smoking. Nothing to do with the ads, the false advertising saying it was good for you, had anything to do with it.
Example: One of their ads said "More Doctors Smoke Camels Than Any Other Cigarette".

One last point - the rapid expansion of consumer packaged goods as a percentage of the American diet corresponds directly with the recent time frame in which gluten intolerance and other "allergies" have developed.
Avoid the middle aisles and stick to foods that are not processed and/or packaged and you will save both money and your health.

Food companies have been putting gluten into foods as a filler. Consumer Packaged Goods companies can't make money out of the actual food, because it's a commodity. So they have to alter it - add something. Gluten is cheap and bulks up the product. It's in french fries, lunch meat, catsup, ricotta - you name it.
Add pesticides, artificial colors and sweeteners, and all of the rest and you've got a fake food revolution that steals our ability to get real nutrition into our bodies and most of us are probably starving of some nutrient, which triggers disease and a weakened immunity system.
I would also argue that wheat is not nutritious which is why bread companies tell us how they have added vitamins and minerals to it. Same goes for milk. Both of these are not essential foods - more likely added when real food is not readily available. They were meant to be a supplement but have become the dominant food source instead. Our bodies are finally saying "enough!" on the wheat products. This is not an allergy - wheat isn't really fit for human consumption. It's a grass - not a naturally appealing food source, let's face it.
Concentrate on eating organic vegetables and fruits, and lean protein sources and you will be getting the nutrition you need. Getting the nutrition you need is the key to good health. Many studies have shown that what we eat (and stress) weighs heaviest than other factors to trigger positive or negative health outcomes.

I believe that the city owns the land. It's called the Green Belt. They are taxed higher to live there. Part of the charm is the green space/buffer zone that is full of nature. Well part of that natural environment was mowed down for Walmart's sake. Seems like they are considered more important than the residents. What a huge surprise. The Waltons are the 1% we keep hearing about these days. They are in the top 10 richest in the U.S.

If enrollment is actually down by 15%, then that would justify not raising taxes on the schools in recent years. Here's one article from 2010:
http://gazettextra.com/news/2010/sep/25/...
I have calculated a 3% decrease since 2008 (from 9948 to 9641). Does somebody have the real numbers? We'd like to see 2001 elementary enrollment counts and 2011. Thanks!

Janesvilleliving - right on! Way to take responsibility. People without kids shouldn't have to pay as much as those with kids. Those with more kids should have to pay more, etc....
I have only heard that there are less kids now because GM folks left town, so one less school might be warranted. I don't like for anyone to lose their job though.
Same thing happened back in the 70's. It was fun to have new kids in our school. Mixed it up a bit. My school was partly condemned, and we had classes in trailers. We didn't just build new schools willy nilly back then. I had to exist under those conditions, so I guess I feel that the crisis we are in are due to new buildings, a laptop for every child, when they should be sharing laptops instead or using paper and pen. Why does everything have to be so fancy? They don't care. They just want to learn. Better to offer summer tutoring than to spend your money on such expensive items.
We always need teachers, paper, a pen and four walls. That's about it folks! Not a new science building and pool.
Just make sure it's the oldest most crumbled up school and it will seem okay to the kids who get to attend the nicer school.

Research has shown time and again - democrats are smarter and more kind hearted really. More creative and innovative.

That's why republicans like Walker are slashing education. If they can dumb you down, you will believe in Santa and the trickle down theory.
No offense to those who are not formally educated. What matters is reading - read things before you form your opinions and from all sources and both sides. That's how you can go beyond believing things because your parents did to making up your own mind. That's my only concern about many republicans. Politicians have been using advertising techniques to convince people to vote against their own self interests - it's been very effective.
