On Gas station robbery suspect charged

I know the young man who died, and it appears to be a suicide based on how he was shot. The young man who died did not have a history of criminal violence, and it is unclear how he got involved in this.
I believe that they had a destination in mind that was accessible via foot from the frozen lake.
The story is an unbelievable tragedy and I am thankful that (at least) no innocent person or police officer was shot or harmed during the robberies or during the chase.
