Thank goodness I chose the right door, because it looks like I won the "Big Deal."

On Janesville man bags rare white buck

I have known responsible hunters that enjoy the sport and tradition of hunting, are passionate about nature, and honor and respect the animal in life and death. Hunting is far more humane than the mass-slaughter of livestock and exploitation of labor on a factory-farms for commercial profit. As a former vegetarian, I never really understood all the anger about deer hunting when there is so much else going on in the carnivorous world that is so much worse.

On Janesville resident killed in Milton Township crash

My condolences. I drive on the new bypass every day back and forth to work. If someone who had driven on 59 before hadn't known about the new bypass construction, I could see how something like this could've happened. There are signs all over the place near the roundabouts, but nothing where old 59 used to be.

On The face of homelessness in Janesville

Nothing wrong with self-reliance... but sometimes the self-reliant have relied on others at one point in their life to get to a better place in life. What if you passed away and your kids had no one to turn to? The world is a lonely place, and you should feel blessed to have what you have, but also know that you too could lose everything. I talk to good people in bad situations everyday who have lost everything due to circumstances beyond their control. Its heartbreaking.

On The face of homelessness in Janesville

I agree with the fact that education may be the key to preventing our children from making poor life decisions in which they end up in a situation such as this. It think we got it straight from the horse's mouth in this article.
~
I don't mean to sound preachy, but lest we not forget those in need, due to circumstances well beyond their control, especially around the holidays. There is nothing wrong with the blue-collar work ethic, (I am from a GM family), but isn't it also just as important to teach our children the virtue of genorousity, especially in a Christian environment? Not ALL of these men made the conscious decision to end up in a shelter; they are in a desperate situation. Statistically speaking, most of the homeless are mentally or physically ill, elderly, and unable to work, therefore unable to be contributing members of society. What are we coming to as a society to deny our disadvantaged, disabled, and elderly food and a warm place to sleep? Isn't it wrong to teach our children to generalize that the impoverished and disadvantaged are bad or amoral people????

On Cheerleading for Christ in public schools

"Our rights are God given. Our rights are not socially given. We answer to a higher power. Regardless if my God is "your" God, the principles of the Ten Commandments give society a moral compass in which to build laws around."
~
Why are Christians so arrogant to think that somehow that it was exclusively the "Ten Commandments" which gave guidelines for ethics and modern law. The moral and ethical principles cited in The Ten Commandments are a common theme in other world religions as well, and not to mention, classic Greek philosophy.
~
"Again I say, if anti-Christians are so against these principles, why obey any law handed down by your city, state or national governing body then?"
~
Why does anyone obey the law, then? It's not about being a Christian or Non-Christian. I will never understand the "them vs. us" mentality. I am not a Christian, but that doesn't make me an anarchist. I am a law abiding citizen like anyone else. Again, it is ignorant to generalize that non-Christians lack a "moral-compass." Where have I argued this point before?

On Random gunfire strikes two Janesville homes

Uhm, why would anyone defend or justify the actions of these two men? Why must we be so petty about "name-calling?" Who cares about the content of their character or their background! What they did was reckless, irresponsible, extremely dangerous to human life, and just plain STUPID.

On Wis. schools deciding how to handle Obama speech

Posted on September 12 at 11:59 a.m. ( Suggest removal )

The speech delivere was a message that conveyed the importance of staying in school. The value of education in our country is an issue that needs to be addressed regardless of who is our president.
~
On the same hand are you going to prevent your child from being taught by a teacher that might have a political stance that differs from yours, even if the material that he or she is teaching has absolutely NOTHING to do with his or her personal views. THAT is what is wrong with this country. A good message gets stomped out because of partisan grudges. The president, like our teachers, mentors, and parents, are role models. Obama didn't have a political agenda with this speech. The world is full of people that are going to influence your childrens' views, and you cannot ensure that you are sheltering them from ideas that differ from your own. Most of what they watch on television and the news is probably more harmful for them then this speech! Keep 'em ignorant and entertained, right?

On Lovely days on the Wisconsin River

Posted on September 11 at 11:52 a.m. ( Suggest removal )

We take an annual kayak trip from Sauk to Muscoda every year. It is a beautiful stretch of river. We haven't seen much of the southern Wisconsin River, but we would eventually like to make the trip to the Mississippi one day!
