On School Districts - Please increase my taxes

SuperDave: I disagree that parents are the ones with a stake in the outcome of children eduction. We all do--these children will be the leaders of tomorrow. From a business perspective I support free trade and competition, but not in education. If we separate state from schools that will even further increase the economic divide. The poor children will not have the same opportunity for success and limit their chances to "Live the America Dream".

Steve makes sense and there are plenty of residence who agree with him. We all should care about the eductation of the youth in the community, even if you do not have children. These are the leaders of the tomorrow. We all learn from experience so we need to assure the children have many different experiences in order to make the best decisions when they are called to serve. We live on a fixed income, Social Security, and are willing to have our property taxes increased. I am willing to give up a night out for dinner or a movie to help the community. When you think of all the services, not just the schools, we receive from the money collected from property taxes it really isn't "that" bad. Please do not think that all your property taxes are going to the school district. The school district is only about a third of that tax bill. The other two thirds is the City, County and small amount to State programs. Programs, i.e. police and fire protection, park maintenance, recreation, snow removal, street maintenance, trash pick up, library, etc. We actually get a lot for the money we spend but we take most of them for granted. If taxes are raised slightly, school fees increased, perhaps a small withdrawal from the bond then perhaps just minor cuts will need to be made in the schools.
On Janesville School District mulls cuts in sports programs

High School sports should be like other extracurricular activities, i.e. theater, music, forensics, etc. "Sports" should not be treated any different. Each student, no matter where their interest and talents lie, should have the same monetary investment from the SJD. Athletic budget at 1.34 million? How much does the SJD budget for other programs? I believe most are self-funded.

I hope many of you are not on a jury. Wait until you hear the whole story before you condemn. I hope no one was physically hurt. Trevor, obviously, needs help and this incident may actually be the best thing that could happen to him.
On Which of these sites do you think would be best for a new Janesville ice arena?

Move the fair grounds to Beloit Ave/Avalon and put new Ice Arena at current fair ground location. Fair is part of the county and would be appropriate out of city limits: animals, noise, and parking.
On Did city make best call on ice arena location?

More the Fair Grounds to the Beloit Ave/Avalon area. The Fair Grounds is part of the county and would be a better fit closer to Beloit. Also, it would have a more appropriate area and room for parking. Then build the ice arena at the old fair grounds location. There is enough room for the arena and parking.

The title of the article is deceiving. There may be 500 employment POSITIONS but it won't be putting 500 Rock County unemployed people to work. I do not know any physicians, nurses, lab techs, xray tech, etc who are looking for work. A great majority of the positions will be filled by transfers from other Dean locations. I am not arguing that there will be some new jobs created but it is nowhere near 500 that the title implies.

to momof 5: newspaper delivery is exempt from minimum wage requirements and from the child labor law restriction of working no more than 6 days a week. They still cannot work before 7am on a school day.
