It seems to me that the clarity of poetry suffers from the requirement of rhyming. The words available to rhyme in a poem are fewer than the words that don't rhyme. Meaning, the more words available to convey your thoughts or feelings the better the poem will be.
The necessity of rhyming is akin to writing a novel with only ten percent of all the words available. Take tattoos, works of art or body graffiti?
I used to know a guy who endeavored to paint like Van Gogh. We were all worried about the fate of his good ear. When his parents announced that they were moving to Arkansas he had a nervous breakdown for fear of having no place to live.
After his parents moved and his discharge from the hospital, he gave up art and married a fat girl and they both went on welfare. They had a couple of kids and he supplemented the welfare money by becoming a junk picker.
The last time I met with him he talked about himself as though he were a colorful character. You decide.

I have a problem with poetry. When it rhymes it's very annoying; and when it doesn't rhyme I figure someone's trying to pull a fast-one.
Is there something wrong with me?
