On Proactive rounds help keep Janesville clean, inspectors say

The reality of the situation is this. First its the 4th Ward it is not a ghetto, or an inner city. Janesville "had"60,000 before GM who knows what our population has dropped to. Then if everyone believes its a dump and just where "poor" people live and that it is dangerous it will become that. Its called self fulfilling prophecy. The real problem is, Landlords who dont care. If your landlord rents you place they dont care about why would the renter then intern care about it. I live just around the corner from where the picture was taken. My house looks nice, but its been a lot of work. We BOUGHT our house and it will a big pile of crap. And over the last two years we have worked on our house, made it better. Which then the people that moved in across the street, also now take care of there property. 2 years ago when we moved here every house looked terrible, but as i work on things so do the people around me. So now all the house on my block and across from me are starting to look better. I also make it a point to meet and talk with my neighbors. We do plant swaps and talk about things we can do in our little section of town to make it better. So what really needs to be happening is a community gathering place for people to talk meet and come up with REAL solutions. Not having police and city workers combing the area and writing tickets. I also agree that the trash and junk is a problem and is gross. There are answers here for everyone. You just have to look.
On Craig, Parker differ on lunch policy

Reading this for some reason pissed me off! Now i graduated from Craig a while ago. But i can say off campus lunch was not some big fun drug party freshmen year. But off campus lunch is where i got to take a break and say what i wanted and relax with out a teacher RIGHT THERE! I meet friends and most days i walked home to my parents house for lunch! Ate and walked back. SO now who is more dangerous the kids with the cars or the new freshman who for the first 4 or 5 weeks are scared out of there mind. And this is not a prison by the way its a high school, I think the school board should have done its research on violence in schools. The more you treat your students like prisoners the more they act like them id's to get in and out to eat lunch. I think i lost my school ID half way through the school year a few times. And for that matter have you seen the JUNK that is for lunch that is not lunch, it is a all you can buy junk food buffet. I expect Gym to be required and longer now.

On Was plan commission right to reject The Shelter?

I do believe the city was right in there ruling last night. I was sadly unable to make last night meeting, but i do live practically on top of the building in question for this shelter. And I can say that since this shelter has shown up it has put neighbors at odds with each other on the issue should it stay or go. And in the end yes we do have a homeless problem but why do people seem to think the 4th Ward is Janesvilles dumping ground. So many people have moved into the area the last few years and are changing the face of the area.I think that if Mr. Tearmen had been honest, and up front with the people in the area. We would have been far more willing for this new shelter to be in our area. What I would like to see, the building to be used for the children in the area. There are two schools and many churches and the YMCA. But what about a facility where the children could come and work on homework and get help from volunteers. You could have evening snacks and people willing to help from homework to filling out FinAid for college. The building is valuable but should be ran right. Lets pick our selves back up and as a community gather and do something for the people in town and the children who sadly need the most help. That way they can stop running the streets and have guidance.
