On Police: Teacher also had heroin

Posted on November 20 at 1:01 a.m. ( Suggest removal )

""Because the offenses occurred within 1,000 feet of a school, Luessenhop also would have to serve 100 hours of community service and could have her driving privileges revoked for six months to five years on each charge if convicted.""

Man that is a weak additional penalty for a teacher having dangerous drugs at school. I thought Wisconsin was tough on drugs.

On High schools locked down for drug search

Posted on November 20 at 12:21 a.m. ( Suggest removal )

These searches rarely uncover any thing and cost taxpayers money. Both cops and teachers/students have better things to do. To quote Shakespere... "full of sound and fury; signifying nothing." Or is it furry :)

If your accelerator peddle, ever appears stuck, simply reach over and turn the key off. Preferably sometime before running over the folks walking in the parking lot.

On Mayor wants officer to catch speeders

Posted on November 17 at 12:18 a.m. ( Suggest removal )

Enforcement of speeding laws should be done in the interest of highway safety not with the idea of making money for the town, city etc. There is no law that says the police must give you 10 mph over the limit. It's the common sense approach of the officers that gives that leeway. Often politicians, with an idea towards raising money, bump heads with the officer's common sense idea. Be very leery of politicians that want to hire cops to make money.

On Deputies to crack down on speeders

With the state budget sporting a 5 billion dollar imbalance, it's amazing they have money for speed traps.

On GM shares hit 60-year low on worries of collapse

Posted on November 12 at 12:22 a.m. ( Suggest removal )

On a GM government bailout:

This would be a disgrace. GM and the other auto makers have generated a huge amount of debt/obligations. The taxpayers could not begin to make them good again. Sweetheart union contracts that give layed off employees 90% of pay and health benefits for years simply isn't seen in any other area of manufacturing. Why should the taxpayers be on the hook for the bad judgment of auto companies. Keeping the auto makers afloat could well sink the country.

On Should the city of Janesville fine homeowners who have made improvements without needed building permits?

I think Steeber may be on his way out for the second time :)

A permit shouldn't be required unless the activity appreciably alters the structure above ground level. Some cities have gone as far as to require a permit to change a faucet. It can get really crazy and simply done to raise revenue.

On GM reports $2.5B 3Q loss, says running out of cash

Posted on November 8 at 12:10 a.m. ( Suggest removal )

Kick..

A $36k pension with full family health benefits is a pretty sweet deal in my book.

That aside, for the moment, GM's financial problems are HUGE. Debt/Obligations of $450+ billion. Yes folks, that's billions. A large drop in sales and a massive cash burn rate could put them into bankruptcy sooner rather than later. Once under bankruptcy protection they wouldn't be paying their obligations, salaries, job banks, health ins etc. This is for working folks. The situation would be somewhat different for retirees but they too would eventually be in trouble. Either the economy needs to change or the government needs to help. The amount of help to make GM "good" would be massive.

On Decrease in state pension checks expected

Posted on November 3 at 5:33 p.m. ( Suggest removal )

If there will be any drop in pension checks, it won't be known until the end of the year. It all depends on where the markets are then rather than now. The figure I heard was 16%, if the fund has lost more than 16% on Dec 31, reductions will begin in May. It has lost more than 16% so far this year, although it could gain some of that back by Dec 31.
