On School board still wants to see list of cuts

My next-door neighbor is a Janesville teacher. She said she would gladly agree to a $10 co-pay, as it would be much cheaper than the deductable and 20% co-pay that they have now.

Actually, Rich, two of my best friends are teachers. They both already work a second job during the school year, and both work full time in the summer. What you're proposing really wouldn't be a change from what they are already doing.

abc - didn't the teachers' union agree to extend the date by which teachers had to be notified to May 15th? Oh - wait - that's something positive done by the teachers, so that didn't get published.
-
gray - you, the citizen, elected the school board members to represent you. To say that you are not represented is ridiculous.
-
Why do many people feel that 747.5 teachers should "cough up the money - times are hard", but think that 60,000 taxpayers should not have to "share the pain". The teachers HAVE "coughed up the money" since 1993 (when the QEO began), while the taxpayers have been undertaxed by the board in recent years.
-
haveconcerns - thank you. Janesville has lost some outstanding people, both veterans and young talent. My teacher neighbor moved out last week to take a 90% position (and a 10% pay cut) in another district because she wants to "get the heck out of Janesville". I know several other young teachers took jobs elsewhere for similar reasons (many of whom were not even laid off to begin with).
-
teachers - hang in there. There are many in the community who appreciate you and support you despite the teacher-bashing you see in the blogs.

The headline says "No Concessions YET from Janesville Teachers". If you read the article, it explains that the JEA does not meet in the summer - waiting until fall insures that all members will know about the meeting and be able to attend.
This is another example of the Gazette pitting the public against the teachers when the teachers have not even met to consider this. If it works, the teachers will be so sick of the bashing by the time they meet, they'll definately vote it down...

For those of you complaining about these issues 'spilling into the classroom'...why don't you ask your darling little angels what types of things they are saying / writing to their teachers to provoke a response? From what I hear, some of these kids are lucky they haven't received tickets for disorderly.

So...lemme see if I understand...
If teachers were to participate in the 'sick out', they would get bashed by Gazette bloggers.
When the Milton teachers "vote overwhelmingly to NOT support the 'sick out'", they get bashed by Gazette bloggers ANYWAY.
Here's an idea...how about a show of SUPPORT for these teachers who CHOSE to put the students of Milton first!
I wholeheartedly support those who choose to voice their opinion by attending the rally at the capitol. But I also think that people should recognize that these local teachers and their union made a decision to be at school tomorrow. They don't deserve the bashing that some of you are dishing out.

Seriously...thank you for clarifying. A majority of high school classes already have 28 or more students in them...18 was the MINIMUM to run a class. A few people I talked to today read the article and thought that the MAXIMUM was being increased from 18 to 24...which is not the case.

Hopefully his work with the Studer Group does not include working with the Janesville Teachers - every teacher in town knows that he is about as anti-teacher as they come...

1) They couldn't serve lunch without power...how would they feed the students?
2) They had no running water - so kids could go to the bathroom, but not wash their hands.
3) They had no PA system, no phones, no walkie-talkies, no computers to look up student locations or emergency contact info...what if there was an emergency in the building?
4) MANY classrooms have NO windows - there are not enough places to 'move' students to.
5) Unless you have administrative training in school law, know ALL the facts, and were there to see exactly what transpired, quit second-guessing the people who DO meet those criteria.
And YES, I WAS there, and no, the kids did NOT just walk out...the kids were outstanding through the whole ordeal!
