NCLB requires highly qualified teachers in the classroom. From the Department of Education website: Highly Qualified Teachers: To be deemed highly qualified, teachers must have: 1) a bachelor's degree, 2) full state certification or licensure, and 3) prove that they know each subject they teach.

Read the story carefully. It is not about salary, it is about giving teachers time during the day to plan lessons, grade papers, use the copy machine, telephone parents, respond to e-mails from parents and administrators, and , for many teachers, travel from one school to another.

On Milton School Board OKs $1.1 million in budget cuts

The $65,000 is salary + benefits. The laid off teachers had a salary of about $35,000 per year. Teachers ARE paying a percentage of their insurance as required in Act 10. Nothing is being ignored except perhaps some facts.
