I wonder what it will cost us in the long run?

On New insurance requirements kick in on Tuesday

Posted on May 30 at 8:16 p.m. ( Suggest removal )

The insurance stays with the vehicle, not the driver. WI has just joined the majority of states with mandatory insurance. WI was a "financial responsibility" state you did not need to have insurance as long as you could show financial responsibility. This basically meant if you got into an accident you would have to pay for the damages out of your own pocket. I had seen paycheck garnishments, if you fail to pay you could be fined, ordered to secure a guarantee bond and obtain high risk SR12 insurance. Here in GA we have mandatory insurance. It is linked to the vehicle tag or license plate. If the insurance lapses the ins. co. informs the state, the state informs you that your tag is suspended. Should you get pulled over it is immediate arrest and impound of the vehicle. BTW Insurance companies will still compete for your business. The WI law seems a little weak.

On Janesville would give property owners two days to shovel

BTW I was once charged $250, that the city said they sent a crew out to clear my walk. I had a neighbor help me after I got the notice. (I was laid up with a broken wrist). No crew ever came to my house. When I challenged it, the city took 2 months to say it was a mistake. What a pain.

If the city doesn't want to pay for postage to inform the property owner. Why doesn't the city employee get out of his car and put the notification on the front door. He's there already. Oh I sorry that would take effort. It's easier to drive around and list address'. Then send the crew out. When they find the walk is clear they go to the next one. It must be cheaper to have an inspector ride around, have crews ride around until they do the work or not and charge the property owner. Where is the appeal process? I do my walk to the best of my ability within 24 hours of the snow fall. Six hours later the snow drifts back over the walk. Don't I get another 48 hours?

I have seen the city send shoveling notices to me when my street hadn't been cleared for 5 days after the snow fall. If I plow my street can I charge the city at exorbitant rates?

On Gun group sues over school zone restrictions

I shot my first gun IN SCHOOL. I was a member of the HIGH SCHOOL SHOOTING TEAM. We had a range in the basement of the school. As does Beloit's ROTC. Unless things have changed the range is probably still there. I don't know if it's in use anymore. The JROTC also had weapons stored on site. Just food for thought.

On What’s Alpha Company Up To?

Thank you to all our troops. As a father of an active duty soldier, The first deployment of my son was the toughest.(he has been deployed 6 times in 6yrs) Thank God for email and phone cards. We were lucky enough to receive a call at least once a month. You can't believe how great it was to hear his voice, and to get his emails. Our FRG set up drop boxes for Care items and had several packing days. The drop boxes were at local business. I remember my son saying the prized items were razors, shave cream, socks, deck of cards, hand held games and beef jerky. The care packages are normally shared with all the troops not just your soldier's unit. Remember the area the troops will be in and send your items accordingly.

May God protect you and bring you home safe. We Will Never Forget You!

On Lake Geneva snuffs out smoking ban

Now there is irony.
It's illegal to drink in public, so you must drink indoors. And if Gfan has his way the only place one will be able to smoke is outdoors.
Where can Gman sign up for the Smoking Police job. Of course it will be an unpaid volunteer job.

There is one American institution that takes care of all ones needs, health, food, education, and housing......It's called a penal institution. I'm sure the inmates love having a care free life. I'll take my freedom and the risks that go with it.
