On Janesville student wins Newtown essay contest

As heartwarming and wonderful as I truly believe this story is and as proud as I am to know that kindness is still running through our schools, I'd ask everyone to please remember...there is another child who continues to be reminded that her newfound friendship is at the center of this project. She becomes more objectified as the media continues to highlight this good deed. If she truly is "different" as she was described and has a hard time with friendships...how do you believe she must be feeling now? I'm sure she's aware of the fact that she's the one that was written about and now talked about on the news, and in the newspaper. As I said, in no way am I remotely trying to downplay a wonderful act of kindness...but take a minute and remember there is a real child with real feelings that may not be taking this extra attention so well.
