On Is city wise to invest in ice arena?

As I've said in previous postings people are quick to knock the spending on the ice arena but I don't think they have the whole picture of what it means to this community. First off there are the 200+ kids that are part of the Hockey and Figure Skating programs. Especially with Hockey, you have out of town people coming to Janesville every weekend to watch their kids' teams play against Janesville. Next, the impact of the Jets cannot be understated. Each summer over 100 kids come to town for tryouts and spend 3-4 days in hotels, eat from our restaurants, etc, etc. Teams that play the Jets stay in our hotels, eat from our restaurants etc, etc. The Jets players are from out of Town, the families they stay with get compensation from those kids' families which is spent on groceries and items for the players. The Jets players eat from our restaurants, frequent our businesses, etc, etc, throughout the season. All of that money spent in Janesville businesses creates tax revenue and helps out our local businesses!!

And the other comment about only one kid from Janesville being on the team. This isn't meant to serve Janesville kids specifically. Are the Badger all from Wisconsin? Are the Brewers only from Milwaukee? Are the Packers only from Green Bay?

Creatureinthefreezer - The Jets benefit the city and it's businesses in many ways. When teams come to play them, they stay in the hotels and eat from our Restaurants. Through the course of the season all of these players frequent restaurants, movie theatres, buy gas for their cars, work jobs. They are required to provide community service. These kids parents come to town, again frequenting businesses. During their tryouts in July there are over 100 out of town kids and their families here for 3 to 4 days. Lots of revenue for businesses there. Not to mention I would assume the Jets pay taxes on ticket, beer and merchandise revenue. Before you throw out accusations maybe you should check into the story a bit. The Jets are a VERY POSTIVE thing for this community!

These people have repeatedly put the public in danger with their actions so why shouldn't the public be made aware of them. It's a good idea.

Steve,
It's too bad you didn't get the facts on this. No one is losing a job, in fact no one even has to leave Grainger with the acquistion if they don't want to. They're also adding another 75 jobs to Credit/Collections in the first half of 2011. Things were shaky for a while but that was the restructuring and a few unfortunate people did lose jobs. I feel very positive on the direction the company is going in Janesville.

I can't even begin to tell you the positive impact that accupuncture and Naturopathic Medicine have had on me. Western medicine wanted to give me drugs then wait until I needed surgery on my neck. With Accupuncture I take no drugs and have more mobility and far less problems then when I did before I began. And YES! Insurance needs to start covering these practices.

Mouse, Harlee, TJ, - How does restricting blogs specifically impact the hard copy circulation and revenue for the Newspaper? I fail to see the connection you are trying to make..... I personally have more respect for the Gazette for making these moves.

On Community acupuncture makes a point in Janesville

Having a bad neck and back, to the point where it affected my everyday mobility, acupuncture has made a huge difference and I'm able to once again actively play sports and partake in physical activities. Western Medicine doctors told me nothing could be done, gave me pain medication and told me I'd have to have surgery someday. It does take time, but definitely worth the while.
