On Janesville School Board makes an offer that could save district $3.5 million per year

Seriously, why is it that everyone thinks that it is 'their' money sitting in the teacher's retirement? It is money that they earned in a job that they did that went into a retirement fund. Would it have made everyone feel better if teacher's earned a higher salary and invested the money themselves? Did you also forget that teachers pay taxes too? I am shocked by this community. As far as I am concerned, I also feel the Gazette likes writing articles that just get people all ticked off. There are things that are left out. Do you really honestly think that if this passes they will save jobs? Heck no, they won't. They have over a 10 million budget problem. None of you did anything to fight for your jobs? Whatever! You just what, sat on unemployement drinking beer all day complaining that teachers still had a job? Or, am I being judgmental here and implying that everyone who got laid off is a lazy drunk...just like you are all blaming the overpaid and lazy teachers for the crisis happening in our state. I want my children to have an education. By the sounds of some of the ignorant comments made on these blogs, some of you might want to look back into furthering your education too.

I am so sick and tired of our city. Do you all really think that the reason our state is in a financial crisis is because the public employees make too much money? Why is it that there is feeling that their retirement is yours? Because you are a taxpayer? So are they! So, they obviously are entitled to some of the money sitting in the Wisconsin Retirement System or not because of people who feel that because of public employees, companies clossed? So, because the teachers/state/city/county employees have a contract that puts so much into their retirement instead of into their pockets, they are screwing the state out of money? So, when you go to work every day and get paid for the job you did, that place of employment who paid you really should be ticked at you and say "your house is mine because you took the money that was mine and bought it!!" These public employees do a job every day just like the rest of you. No one has the right to say "at least they have a job." Everyone started out in life with the same opportunities. Some chose to work for the public and some for private sector. We need to respect what each of us contribute and stop placing blame. Public employees are just trying to keep their rights. No one said they were not willing to pay their fair share to help the budget. Walker has brainwashed a lot of people into thinking public employees are the enemy, but look further into his bill, there are a lot more things that EVERYONE will suffer from. One more final thought on the whole system of teachers here in Janesville, why is it that we are in a financial crisis but our school superintendent got a raise and a bonus? Is this okay to pay her this increase because she is getting rid of all those greedy teachers here in Janesville?

Has anyone done any research as to why we are so far in the hole? How did Janesville go from 6 million to 10 million in a year? I agree with all your statements. Thank you Janesvillians for looking at our children and how they will suffer without teachers being available...cuz everyone knows there will be no administratives coming to put their higher educations to good use in the classroom!
On Janesville School Board to consider cutting assistant principal position

Now, why would Schulte get rid of the Assistant Principal/AD at Parker? Why wouldn't she let the Assistant Principal that was just hired go? JMO...maybe Schulte should be let go and get someone in there who can actually balance the good for the children and the community. Overpaid with too much power tends to make people overcome with greed. Happy Holidays to you Schulte!

Seriously...can you people let it rest? Yes SarahB1 $25 here and $25 there adds up. Are any of you aware that tax increases are NOT just because of the teachers? What about the fact that other city employees have just received an approx 8% pay raise. SarahB1, who pays for that?? If you are slightly confused, we the tax payers...this may be where your additional $25 comes in. No one seems to complain when the other city employees get a raise!! Can we please just let this rest?? You can start your complaining 4 years from now. I am just happy that things have been settled and that everyone can turn their focus on education for our children.

Heard that other city employees actually got about an 8% raise. Sounds like the tax increases that the community is seeing really isn't totally because of the school teachers...hmmmm. Maybe Bill could use his soft spoken words to explain the greed that the other city workers are demonstrating.

So, news, you pay for your own health insurance? Is this now or since you were let go from your job? You pay for your own retirement? Again, do you do this now since you were let go from where?? GM?? Since you are obviously better informed than most about teachers getting paid so well, when are you going to go and get your teaching certificate and become one? I am not a teacher, but I want what is best for my children. I want an educated person who takes pride in their job. I could never put with 20-30 potentially disrespectful children, so I will pay a teacher their worth. Plus, news, I am sure that if you look at administration pay, it is way more than what a teacher makes. The people who have no direct contact with our children whatsoever. And, justintimberlakerules...well said. When are we going to come together as a community and want better for our children...an education, and stop the pity party of teachers having a job and the GM plant closing? There has to be some positive in some of your lives with new doors opening. For those of you without jobs, I am so very sorry. However, we are no longer a factory town. Therefore, we should set our sights on education, focusing on our next generation to greater things.
On Janesville School Board to consider cuts

In reading all your comments, how come no one mentioned that Karen should take a decrease in pay? Here she makes over 6% more than the previous superintendent with no experience. Have they looked into any cuts for the administrators? How come we cut everything when it comes to students and teachers...directly affecting our children. You think cutting some downtown people would directly affect our overall student achievement...most likely not, but it would save on the ol' budget. And lastly, GM workers, I for one am really sorry that you lost your jobs! With that said, stop comparing yourselves to teachers. I am not a teacher but know that teachers have a college education (not saying that all GM workers don't have a college education), but teachers have to have continuing education to keep their licensing. Let's keep our focus on the matter at hand, our children coming up through the school system.

On Janesville school pay frozen for some, upped for others
Posted on October 13 at 11:56 a.m. ( Suggest removal )
WOW!!! Can anyone wrap their heads around this? So, we cut teachers because we need to be within budget and have no money. However, they are asking for the administrators to have a pay increase. I find this absolutely ridiculous and Schulte should be kicked in the pants for asking such a thing even be considered! If there is extra dollars, get some teachers back in the schools. Oh, and the to the computer service workers, welcome to how teachers must feel. Working more for less...but, remember (from previous postings) welcome to the real world and just be happy you have a job.
