The magic word is legal-I have four children that are trying their hardest to make a living and two going to college-it is very frustrating when they are asked on applications if they need it in Spanish(check the first page on a FAFSA)not Irish or any other language just Spanish-please if you want to go to school here-play at a level field-you are no better than any other student and shouldn't get a "special" break just because you are illegal. Once again illegal means against the law-not law abiding.

I'm glad you came forward Laurie. I remember you from school and would never have guessed the abuse you endured. I'm grateful my abuser (my father) is now dead and cannot continue to abuse others. I was not as brave as you to come forward as he pursued other young girls.

I cried when Brett did his farewell speech. He was like family to most of us. I really wanted him back but now it has become such a sore subject that Coach has got to concentrate on the TEAM. He was given chances to come back with everyone welcoming him and he has decided his feelings were too hurt!!??? How old is he....get over it there is no I in team and he has lost the team spirit. Love you Brett but good luck else where. Too bad it wasn't Thompson leaving.

I am very glad the students learned Spanish-I too know some.(I was only quoting the 500 million from DanHartung.) I just believe in what Myron Cobb said and that all other veterans deserve the respect that they have fought for --the Pledge of Allegiance should be said in English. Maybe they should have shown their skill by doing a Spanish play or song-but leave the Pledge of Allegiance in English.

I am not racist. I believe if you are in the US you should speak English--a second and third language is great to know, but we should not have to all learn it to understand each other. It's like flying the flag-the US flag comes on top-any other flag can be displayed below it. I believe the US deserves more respect. At the Olympics are not all the countries anthems sung in their own language?
The US does have 500 million Spanish speaking people-and English is becoming the second language.

Enough already-if I wanted to speak (or listen to )spanish I would live in Mexico. Our ancestors all were required to learn to speak English when they came here why can't the mostly illegal aliens learn it too instead of wasting our tax dollars paying for extra teachers to speak "their" language, free medical care, and don't forget the wonderful free housing. PLEASE enough already.
Remember Mexico requires you to speak Spanish when you work and live there. Why doesn't the US?

I too would like to know where the people that qualify for legal government help have gone--I run a childcare and have had no W-2 applicants in almost a year.

isn't it strange that once again the resources that we have given donations to to help out people are going to people that are here illegally that shouldn't be here in the first place? So once again a bad landlord is giving people who are here illegally a good place to live instead of sending them back to where they belong? I am sorry to sound insensitive but I am on unemployment and so are two of my children who have worked their butts off. We aren't getting any help from anyone. We would rather work but all the jobs are going to people who are living off us and sending their money to Mexico--check out the article on illegal farm workers that was in the gazette a few days ago.
