A last-second shot failed to fall, and the UW-Rock County basketball team lost at UW-Marathon 85-84 on Saturday afternoon.
The Rattlers rallied after trailing 53-40 at halftime. Coach Bill Peyer’s squad took the lead with about 1½ minutes left, but Marathon retook the lead with two free throws.
The win put UW-Marathon (10-4) within one-half game of the first-place Rattlers (10-3) in the East Division of the Wisconsin Collegiate Conference.
The Rattlers had one final chance, inbounding the ball with .9 seconds left, but their final shot failed to fall.
J.J. Scott scored 17 points and grabbed 12 rebounds to lead the Rattlers. David Harper had 20 points and Ben McDonald added 15.
With just two regular-season games remaining, the Rattlers play at UW-Baraboo on Wednesday night.
