JANESVILLE

Gary Shuchuk had the best seat in the house Friday night at the Janesville Ice Arena.

The Janesville Jets head coach stood on the bench as his team dominated the Minnesota Magicians in completing a two-game NAHL sweep.

Jakov Novak had two goals and an assist, while Kip Hoffmann added three assists to lead the Jets to a 4-0 win. Daniel Lebedeff stopped all 21 shots he faced to earn the shutout win.

Janesville jumped out to 2-0 lead after the first period and kept on the offensive attack for 60 minutes. The Jets out-shot the Magicians 45-21.

Shuchuk said his team played well both nights, including Thursday’s 6-3 win.

“When we play the right way and the way we’re capable, we can dominate anybody,” Shuchuk said. “And that’s what we did tonight.

“It was fun. I had the best seat. I leaned against the pole and watched us put out four lines and six D (defensemen) that got the job done.”

Novak got the party started at 12:27 of the first period. He took a pass from behind the net from Hoffmann and stuffed a shot past Minnesota goalie George McBey.

A power-play goal from John Pesek at 15:31 of the first made it 2-0. Pesek blasted a shot from the blue line that McBey either never saw or was screened on because he never moved.

Novak got his second tally of the game at 7:34 of the second. Hoffmann again set him up.

Lebedeff, a University of Wisconsin recruit, didn’t have to make many sterling saves thanks to a tenacious defense in front of him. Minnesota had very few scoring chances as Janesville kept play for most of the game in its offensive end.

“Daniel said it was probably one of the easiest games he’s ever had to play,” Shuchuk said of Lebedeff. “And that’s because it was a great team effort. There’s a reason he didn’t have to make a lot of big saves.

“We took care of traffic in front of the net and eliminated a lot of sticks.”

Erik Palmqvist, who finished with a goal and two assists, capped off the scoring at 14:08 of the third.

Janesville plays at Springfield next Friday and Saturday.
