Tanner Polglaze scored his second clutch goal in as many nights, this time an overtime game-winner, as the Janesville Jets completed a two-day sweep of the Springfield Jr. Blues with a 5-4 win Saturday at the Janesville Ice Arena.
Janesville (23-8-2-0) won its sixth straight game and beat rival Springfield (18-14-2-1) for the fourth time in eight days. The Jets sit in second place in the NAHL’s Midwest Division, five points back of Fairbanks (24-5-3-2).
Polglaze ended a wild game 1:19 into overtime on an unassisted goal. The Beloit native’s fifth goal of the season came a day after he scored with three minutes left in regulation to help the Jets beat Springfield 2-1 in the series opener.
The two teams combined for six goals during the first period Saturday. Shane Haviland and Spencer DenBeste scored within the first 8:11 to give Springfield a 2-0 lead. Jakov Novak and Kip Hoffmann found the net 24 seconds apart to help the Jets pull even.
Jack Vincent, making his Jets’ debut, gave Janesville the lead thanks to assists from Polglaze and Sam Renlund before Denbeste’s second goal at 17:22 tied the game 3-3.
Janesville went ahead on Alec Semandel’s goal at 16:39 in the third period, but Springfield’s Ethan Stewart answered with 1:07 left to send the game to overtime.
Garrett Nieto made 24 saves for the Jets to improve to 5-1 against the team he played for last season.
Janesville opens a two-game series at the Minnesota Magicians on Friday.
