Freshman Alec Anderson provided his Janesville Parker wrestling teammates and coaching staff a memorable performance in his varsity debut Thursday night.

Anderson went out and pinned Madison La Follette’s Ernest Ugalde in 5:10 to win the 195-pound match during the Vikings’ 48-32 Big Eight Conference dual-meet loss to the visiting Lancers.

Parker coach Daniel Jackson was excited about what his freshman wrestler did.

“He only weighs about 177,” Jackson said. “He stepped up in a pretty tough situation. He got the win, which was pretty exciting. He didn’t back down.”

Parker’s Brett Perkins continued his outstanding season. The senior earned a technical fall at 126 to improve to 19-0.

Other Parker highlights included Tristan Buol’s pin at 106 and Nicolas Lux’s 13-6 decision at 120.

“We wrestled well,” Jackson said. “A couple of the other matches could have gone either way.”

The Vikings will be at a tournament at D.C. Everest High School on Saturday.
