Sun Prairie’s three-year reign atop the Big Eight Conference ended Saturday.

The Cardinals fell short of Middleton, which scored 138.550 points inside its own gym to win its first Big Eight gymnastics meet title since 2013.

Madison East/La Follette’s Tyra Turner successfully defended her vault title and went on to win the all-around with 36.150 points. Middleton’s Karina Sabol claimed first place on the balance beam and in the floor exercise.

Janesville Craig scored 123.050 points to take fifth, while Janesville Parker (108.175) was eighth.

“Our girls had a pretty good day,” said Craig coach Jean Welch, who shared conference coach of the year honors with Parker’s Heidi Jegerlehner. “We started out strong on floor and vault. Beam was our downfall.”

Craig sophomore Ariyana Stalsberg had the top Janesville finish (fifth) in the floor exercise.

Parker senior Carson Richards was 13th in the all-around.

Craig and Parker travel to Waukesha West High on Thursday for a WIAA Division 1 sectional at 5:30 p.m.
