Janesville Parker gymnastics coach Heidi Jegerlehner hopes an increase in numbers leads to an increase in success.
First, however, the Vikings will need to overcome a few early-season injuries.
Elkhorn swept the top three spots in all four events and the all-around on Tuesday night, earning a 133.437 to 105.4 nonconference victory that opened the dual-meet season.
“Tonight’s first dual meet ... gave us an idea of where we are starting at as a team and where we can potentially go,” said Jegerlehner, who indicated 27 girls went out for gymnastics compared to 14 last season. “We have a lot of raw talent to work with.”
Elkhorn’s Brianna Taylor won beam and floor on her way to the all-around title.
Parker was missing senior all-around gymnast Carson Richards, as well as two younger all-around competitors, with injuries. Junior Elena Apfel was fifth on beam, floor and all-around for the Vikings, who are at Madison Memorial on Thursday.
