The Clinton girls basketball team gave first-place Jefferson a scare Tuesday night.

The Cougars hung tough on the road and were within one possession into the final minute of their Rock Valley Conference game, but Jefferson prevailed 62-56 to remain alone at the top.

The Eagles withstood the challenge to improve to 12-1 in the Rock Valley and 15-1 overall. Clinton is 6-8 and 8-10.

Clinton senior Payton Severson scored all 13 of her points in the second half, including a pair of 3-pointers, to cut Jefferson’s 10-point lead down to two points late in the game.

Callie Morrison and Parker Fetherson each scored 18 points to lead the Eagles. Olivia Ganser added 12.

Olivia Roehl also had 13 for Clinton. Liz Kalk added 10 for the Cougars.

Big Foot 62, Turner 31—Senior guard Courtney Schoenbeck scored 20 points, and the visiting Chiefs doubled up the Trojans to remain alone in second place in the RVC.

Big Foot is 12-5 overall and 11-2 in league play. Turner fell to 9-8 and 6-8.

Payton Courier added 14 points for the Chiefs, who led 30-15 at halftime.

Elise Metzger had 10 points for Turner.

Whitewater 75, East Troy 47—Allison Heckert scored a career-high 30 points and Ali Ketterhagen added 20 for the Whippets, who won big on the road to remain in a third-place tie with McFarland, two games back of Jefferson.

Whitewater built a 43-16 lead by halftime and didn’t look back.

Ketterhagen added 10 rebounds to finish with a double-double.

Erin Rice had 16 points to lead East Troy.

McFarland got 23 points from Katie Rounds and 15 from Gabi Runde to remain tied for third with Whitewater.

Alexis Oliver led the Cardinals with 21 points, while Erin Nyhus added 11.
