With two victories in the final games of 2017, coach Jennah Hartwig and her Janesville Parker High girls basketball team are ready for 2018.
Junior Julia Hartwig scored 25 points and Tina Shelton added 11 as the Vikings defeated Chippewa Falls 64-52 at JustAGame Fieldhouse in Wisconsin Dells.
The win against the Cardinals (5-3), after Wednesday’s against Big Foot, puts the Vikings at 4-5 overall.
“We’re improving,” Jennah Hartwig said. “I’m happy to see that.”
The head coach was impressed with the way her guards passed the ball and how those receiving the passes were ready to shoot.
“The guards took care of the basketball,” Hartwig said. “And the defense stepped up. We’re playing more aggressively.”
The Vikings built an 18-point lead in the second half, but the Cardinals made a push. The Vikings held their composure and came away with the satisfying victory.
Julia Hartwig was helped on the offensive end by several nice passes, and the 6-foot-2 forward dominated inside defensively.
“She really took care of business,” Jennah Hartwig said.
The Vikings made eight 3-point baskets, including two each by Shelton, Jena Forrestal and Cam Rosga.
Parker will attempt to build on its momentum when it plays at Beloit Memorial next Thursday in a Big Eight Conference game.
