Janesville Parker’s girls basketball team turned the tables on Walworth Big Foot on Wednesday.
After losing by 27 points to the Chiefs in the opening-game last season, the Vikings got a free throw from Julia Hartwig with four seconds left in a 56-55 win at the Holiday Shootout Tournament in Wisconsin Dells.
Parker (3-5) got a game-high 20 points from Hartwig and 16 from sophomore point guard Jena Forrestal, but Parker coach Jennah Hartwig called the win a total team effort.
“We just played really well as a team, even when Julia picked up her fourth foul with 14 minutes left and had to come out,” coach Hartwig said. “The girls made great decisions on both ends of the court. Big Foot is a real nice team.
“I’ve really noticed an improvement from the girls, and it starts with the way we’ve been practicing.”
Parker led by six at half, but Big Foot stayed close thanks to Reagan Courier and Courtney Schoenbeck, who combined for 31 points.
Hartwig was fouled with four seconds left and missed the first free throw. Big Foot called timeout, but Hartwig calmly stepped to the line and sank the second attempt. Parker’s Brooke Graesslin got a hand on the inbounds pass, and Big Foot never got a shot off.
Parker plays Chippewa Falls at 2:30 p.m. today.
