Clinton’s girls basketball team made it a clean sweep Tuesday night.

Liz Kalk scored 23 points, including a 5-of-7 performance from 3-point range, to lead the Cougars to a 61-48 victory over visiting East Troy in a WIAA Division 3 girls regional quarterfinal basketball game.

The No. 7-seeded Cougars (10-13) beat the Trojans all three times they met this season. Clinton plays at No. 2-seeded Martin Luther in a regional semifinal Friday.

Payton Severson added the other two 3-pointers for Clinton and finished with 14 points. Olivia Roehl added 11 points as seven Cougars contributed points in the victory.

Adeline Lomen scored 15 points and Mackenzie Lindow added 13 to lead the 10th-seeded Trojans (4-18).

Turner 66, St. Catherine’s 49—If the St. Catherine’s scouting report on Turner High didn’t include “watch the 3-point shooting of Elise Metzger,” the Racine school now knows it.

Metzger hit seven 3-pointers on her way to a game-high 23 points.

The Trojans, seeded No. 6, play at No. 3-seeded Lakeside Lutheran on Friday.

Carson Nitz nearly had a triple-double in the victory, putting up 14 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists.

Metzger scored 14 points in the first half, including four 3s, to help the Trojans build a 29-23 lead.

Metzger and Olivia Tinder each scored nine points in the second half, when Turner pulled away. Tinder finished with 13 points.

Three area D3 games postponed—Three Division 3 regional quarters involving area teams were postponed and will be played at 7 p.m. today.

The postponed games were: ninth-seeded Brodhead at Poynette; 12th-seeded Evansville at Lodi; and 11th-seeded Edgerton at Richland Center.

Division 2

Elkhorn 50, Fort Atkinson 43—The Elks made 29 of 37 free throws to hold off visiting Fort Atkinson in a WIAA Division 2 regional quarterfinal.

Elkhorn, now 10-13 and seeded No. 7, plays at No. 2-seeded Union Grove on Friday night.

Haley Remington led the Elks with 16 points, including going 8 of 10 from the line. Payton Christensen added 14 points, hitting 9 of 11 free throws.

The Elks were 20 of 26 from the line in the second half, when Fort Atkinson was forced to foul.

Anna Schoenike and Sarah Pfeiffer each had 10 points for the Blackhawks.

Amber Hudson led Parkview, which finished 10-13 overall, with a game-high 18 points. Kristine Mumm added 10 points.

Waterloo plays top seeded Saint Mary’s Springs next.
