Miranda Reynolds did her part to ensure the Whitewater High girls basketball team wouldn’t be felled in its first game after an 11-day holiday break.

The senior forward scored 17 points to help the host Whippets shake off the Lake Mills L-Cats 51-39 in a nonconference game Tuesday.

It was the team’s first game since Dec. 21.

“We made too many mistakes at both ends of the court,” Whitewater coach Judy Harms said. “And we need to iron out numerous wrinkles.

“As frustrating as it was at times, we have to remember it’s been a long break since our last game.”

Whitewater (8-3) led 23-19 at halftime before expanding its lead in the second half. Allison Heckert had nine points in the win.

Jade Pitta led Lake Mills with 10 points, including two 3-pointers.
