The Rock Valley Conference boys golf tournament went according to script.
Regular-season champion Edgerton cruised to the tournament title Wednesday with a 316 team total at Riverside.
Edgerton’s Joe Forsting and Kyle Wille tied for the low round with a 4-over par 76.
Forsting claimed medalist honors thanks to a birdie on the first hole of a sudden-death playoff.
Beloit Turner finished a distant second with 370.
On a sun-drenched day on the par 72 Riverside course, Forsting forged a consistent round with an even-par 36 on the front and a 4-over 40 on the back.
“I struggled a little bit at the end, but played pretty well up until then,” Forster said. “And I finished strong with a birdie on the playoff hole.”
Forsting and Wille both hit good drives on the playoff hole—the par 5, 10th.
Forsting hit 5-iron from 200 yards out to within 25 feet of the cup and two-putted for birdie. Wille sprayed his second shot and needed four shots to get on the green. His long par putt lipped out, and Forsting only needed to three-putt from 25 feet for the win.
Despite the playoff loss, Wille said it was a great day for Edgerton golf.
“Having a playoff against a teammate makes it not only more interesting but more fun,” Wille said. “It’s cool to be out here with a good buddy and playing to be the best in our conference.”
Edgerton also got an 80 from Jacob Fox and an 84 from Alec Johnson.
The Crimson Tide seemed prime for a possible run to state.
“Joe and I are playing well down the stretch, and Jacob’s playing well right now, too,” Wille said. “And I know Alec is excited to get to the postseason and posting some low scores, and we all know how good he’s capable of playing.”
Billie Joe Parker finished third with a 77. The Whitewater senior, who plays on the boys team because the school does not have a girls golf program, finished her round with a birdie at No. 18.
