The Janesville Bluebirds came up short Wednesday in the first game of the Joe Raymond Memorial Holiday Classic.

Cade Tennessen, Connor McLaughlin and Justin Schwartzmiller scored two goals each to lead Fond du Lac St. Mary’s Springs to a 7-2 win over the city’s boys co-op hockey team.

Janesville (1-9-0) tied the game at 2-2 in the second period on Connor Joyce’s unassisted goal, but Fond Du Lac Springs scored five unanswered goals after that.

“The goal that hurt the most was the one that they got right after we had tied the game at 2-2,” Janesville coach John Mauermann said. “The puck took a funny bounce and went right over the shoulder of Owen (Aldrich).

“But we knew coming in that the competition here was going to be good. And that’s why we like to play in this tournament. Three games in three days can tell you a lot about your team.”

Kyler Kobs got Janesville’s first goal that tied the game at 1-1 midway through the opening period.

Janesville plays Northland Pines at 4 p.m. today.
