The Janesville Bluebirds learned a tough lesson Thursday night.
It’s tough to win playing a man short.
The city’s high school co-op boys hockey team committed six penalties and gave up two power-play goals in a 4-1 nonconference loss to Cedarburg at the Janesville Ice Arena.
Janesville (3-12) trailed 4-0 after two periods before Kyle Ward got an unassisted goal to put the Bluebirds on the board at 8:48 of the third.
“It’s not like we were outclassed,” Janesville coach John Mauermann said. “We just shot ourselves in the foot too many times.
“You aren’t going to win many games when the other team is playing 5-on-4 against you. The first and third goals we gave up tonight were on the power play because we took a silly penalty.”
Owen Aldrich had 27 saves for Janesville, which plays at MilwakueeMarquette on Saturday night.
