Janesville Parker’s boys basketball team was 18 minutes from finishing the regular season on a high note Thursday night.
Madison West had other ideas.
After falling behind by 13 points by halftime, the Regents outscored the Vikings by 27 the rest of the way to win 90-76 in a Big Eight Conference game.
“We played really well in the first half. It felt like we were in control,” Parker coach Keith Miller said. “Second half was a different story. We didn’t respond to adversity, couldn’t stop them in transition and turned the ball over too much.”
Senior Chris Galvan scored 26 points for the Vikings who put up 48 first-half points by moving the ball on offense and attacking the rim.
West slowly cut into the deficit early in the second half before gaining the lead.
“We just never calmed back down,” Miller said. “We didn’t slow down and get into our offense like we did in the first half. We panicked and had tunnel vision.
“It was a game we definitely should have won, but we let it slip away.”
Parker, which finished the regular season 2-20 overall and 1-17 in the Big Eight got 16 points from Kavion Ellison.
Keishawn Shanklin led all scorers with 28 for West (3-19, 2-16).
Parker, seeded 18th in the Division 1 Sun Prairie Sectional, plays at 15th-seeded Kenosha Indian Trail in a regional quarterfinal Tuesday.
