Ian Brown’s unexpected scoring outburst helped Madison Memorial erase a three-game losing streak Saturday.

Brown scored 15 of his game-high 29 points in the second half as the Spartans defeated Janesville Craig 67-52 in a Big Eight Conference boys basketball game in Madison.

Brown, a 6-foot-5 forward, was averaging 8.5 points per game prior to Saturday. His previous scoring high, 18 points, came in the season opener Nov. 25.

Memorial (15-5, 12-4 Big Eight) out-scored Craig (9-10, 7-8 Big Eight) 38-24 in the second half to pull away. The Spartans bounced back after being held to 32 points in a loss to league-leading Sun Prairie on Thursday.

Craig entered the night riding its first winning streak of the season after back-to-back wins over Janesville Parker and Burlington. Jacob Ngobi scored 16 points—14 in the first half—to lead the Cougars, who return home to face Beloit Memorial on Monday.

Brown, a 6-foot-5 forward, led all players with three 3-pointers. Nick Caropreso added 10 points for the Spartans.
