A 1-3 start continues to fade further and further away for the UW-Whitewater football team.
Marcus Hudson caught two touchdown passes in the second half, and the Warhawks held host UW-River Falls to 170 yards of offense in a 20-7 WIAC win Saturday afternoon.
Hudson, a senior receiver and Delavan-Darien grad, set season highs with nine receptions and 173 yards to lead the Whitewater offense.
Cole Wilber completed 16 of 20 passes for 231 yards. The junior quarterback found Hudson for a 14-yard score with 34 seconds left in the third quarter and a 40-yard touchdown with 4:08 left in the fourth quarter to lift the Warhawks to their third straight win.
Whitewater (4-3, 3-1 WIAC) will face Stevens Point next Saturday on the road.
Junior defensive lineman Harry Henschler, a Janesville Craig grad, recorded a sack to push his conference-leading total to 10.5, and the Warhawks defense forced 10 punts while allowing only 75 rushing yards to River Falls (3-4, 1-3 WIAC).
The Warhawks took a 3-0 lead on Wojciech Gasienica’s 28-yard field goal just before halftime, set up by a Luke Tegtman interception. Gasienica kicked a 42-yarder to double the lead in the third quarter, and Hudson’s first touchdown pushed the lead to 13-0.
River Falls got its only points when Michael Diggins cashed in a 1-yard touchdown with 12:29 to play.
