— A man accused of killing his wife more than 10 years ago will appear in Walworth County Court on Thursday afternoon on a charge of first-degree intentional homicide.

David A. Brossard, 40, Burlington, was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of slaying his wife, Dawn Brossard, who was 29 at the time, Walworth County Sheriff’s Capt. Dana Nigbor said in a news release.

"We're very happy," Nigbor said. "It’s been a long time. My detectives did a lot of hard work."

Dawn Brossard was reported missing to the Burlington Police Department on Oct. 25, 1997, Nigbor said.

The last person to see her alive was David, her estranged husband.

David at the time told authorities he had talked with Dawn in the parking lot of the State Financial Bank in Burlington, where she worked. Dawn's car was found locked in the parking lot.

In July 2003, nearly six years after Dawn was reported missing, recreational scuba divers found her body in the bottom of Geneva Lake, Nigbor said.

According to reports, the body was found in 120 feet of water, wearing the clothes she had on when she disappeared.

The keys to her car were in her pocket.

Investigators at the time said the body was held down by a weight and chain. Her hands were bound.

Sheriff's department investigators later revealed that they believed Dawn was murdered, but they declined to comment further at the time.

David offered to take a lie detector test and allowed police to search both their home and his truck, according to reports at the time, but the searches turned up nothing suspicious.

A New York City FBI team of 12 divers came to Williams Bay in September 2005 to help with the investigation.

This case sounds entirely circumstantial and a tough one to prove beyond a reasonable doubt. Dawn Bossard and her family deserve justice. I just hope that when all is said and done she gets it.

QueenB, For one I don't have a rap sheet. And you think bad decision that leads to murder is ok? I think that is more than a bad decision. So the guy that just shot all them kids up north made a bad decision alos then? I think its someone that he is a loser in life. Thats my opion though. I would never be on the jury anyways because I knew him for years anyways.

Boatmechanic-before they throw away a key they need proof, evidence, you know beyond reasonable doubt!! Circumstantial evidence and a woman making statements is hardly reasonable doubt. I hope for his sake you people dont make the jury pool, you all have clearly made up your minds before hearing both sides. As for the OUI that resulted in the death of a friend, that is called making a bad decision. I bet if your rap sheet was made public we could see all the bad decisions you have made in you 20's and beyond

It happened when he was in his late teens early twenties and was on probation when I used to work with him. His liscensce was suspended when I worked there.

Its about time they arrested him. This would be his second murder. He was drunk driving and killed his friend who was in the truck with him. Hope they throw the key away.

LOVEMYGOLDENS....I am assuming you have golden retrievers? Am I correct? We have a four month old little boy, and we just LOVE him. He is the best little guy. Just thought I would find out if that was what your screen name meant. I had a small dog before and had nothing but problems with her, decided that I 'hated' dogs. Well, this little guy came into our lives about a month ago, and he has rehabilitated my heart. :o)

Agreed - A lot of questions here... SO, they didn't initially find the body until July of 2003. Ok, so then why did divers come up MORE than 2 years later?? And then I wonder what took another 3 years to arrest the ex-husband!
.
Kinda had to shake my head a little that the article points out "the body was held down by a weight and chain. Her hands were bound." but the think it might have been homicide... Really! Seems a little obvious to me - that's definitely not an accident!

"David at the time..." So, he's not David anymore? And the car was found locked in the parking lot? I didn't realize the bank had gates and locked the parking lot.
**
**
"David offered to take a lie detector test and allowed police to search both their home and his truck, according to reports at the time, but the searches turned up nothing suspicious."

Very awkward phrasing. Plus, it should be two sentences. It reads better (and more correct) as: According to reports at the time, David offered to take a lie detector test and allowed police to search both his truck and their home. But, the searches turned up nothing suspicious.

Yes, it is being kind of nitpicky but if someone is going to be paid to write these articles, and someone else is going to be paid to edit them, they should both at least make an effort. I understand deadlines and such. But, it takes just a few minutes to do it properly. Heck, in their rush to break the story, they still missed much of what is being reported elsewhere.

lovemygoldens, other news outlets are reporting that at least one piece of evidence involves the bolts used on the chains weighing the body down. Apparently, they seem to match the bolts used by David Brossard's employer, or at least his employer at the time of death.

Not to be overly nitpicky but the writing in this particular article is pretty abysmal. Perhaps the journalist and/or the editor could take a minute and actually read through the darn things before they get posted to the website.

At least they stuck with it and weren't ashamed to ask for help, unlike Rock Co.
.
Whatever happened with the Virginia Hendrickson case?

Well, at least he can stop looking over his shoulder...I bet he was living in some serious HE** the last ten years. And just when he thought he could relax....I will never understand HOW a person can take another human being's life. I sure hope he get's a life sentence.
