Mike Nanstad and his Albion teammates played the spoiler’s role in Home Talent League baseball.

Nanstad pitched his fifth complete game of the season Sunday as the Tigers topped visiting Evansville on a three-hitter, 3-0, forcing the Jays to share the West Division championship in the Southeast Section.

While finishing 10-4 for the regular season, Evansville fell into a first-place tie with Utica and lost the division’s No. 1 seed and home-field advantage for the playoffs. That means the Jays play at East Division champion Fort Atkinson in Sunday’s first round, while Utica hosts East runner-up Jefferson.

Fort Atkinson improved to 10-5 and clinched the East Division title with a 9-0 win over Deerfield. Jefferson downed Whitewater, 10-1, to finish a game behind the Generals with a 9-6 record.

Orfordville walloped Lake Mills, 17-5, after Lake Mills pounded Cambridge, 12-2, to complete the Southeast’s regular-season play.

n Albion 3, Evansville 0—Nanstad’s strong pitching included seven strikeouts as Albion beat Evansville for the second time to finish two games behind the West Division co-champions at 8-6.

The Tigers got the only run they needed after Aaron Lawkowski’s first-inning double. Laskowski advanced to third on Jesse Appel’s sacrifice and scored on Pete Millar’s sacrifice fly to deep left field.

Albion added two runs in the fifth on Appel’s sacrifice fly, followed by a throwing error.

Marty Johnson had two of Albion six hits, and Aaron Manogue of the Tigers raised his team-leading batting average to .357 by going 2x3 and scoring a run.

n Orfordville 17, Lake Mills 5—The Orioles jumped to a 7-0 lead in the first two innings and finished 5-9 in the West Division by burying the East’s third-place team.

Joe Cox went 5-for-6, and Josh Cox was 4-for-5 in leading Orfordville’s 15-hit attack. Ty Martin and Brandon Cook had home runs for the Orioles.

n Fort Atkinson 5, Deerfield 0—Chris Koepke and Terry Steppke combined for five-hit pitching to shut down Deerfield (2-13).

The Generals pulled away from a 3-0 lead with two-run rallies in the fourth and fifth. Scott Kammer and Tim Buchta each had two of Fort Atkinson’s 10 hits.

n Jefferson 10, Whitewater 1—Jefferson collected 17 hits, including seven for extra bases, and rode Ryan Wagner’s complete-game nine-hitter to victory over the Swingers.

Kyle Lange, Chris Folbrecht and John Ristow each had three hits for the Blue Devils.

n Lake Mills 12, Cambridge 2—Kyle Wollin went 3-for-4, including a home run, and Rusty Meyers also homered to lead the Grays (8-7) past Cambridge (5-10) in the first of two games at Lake Mills.
