The 1st, in 06', a broken foot, which he continued to play on despite!! #4 went out @ halftime (They were losing 0-21) from an "elbow" injury from a hard SACK (boohoo!)...How convenient, huh?! BUT, Farve was OK by the next week lol! As he usually is lol! (THANK GOODNESS for fans such as YOURSELF! :) Rodger's foot put him out the rest of 06'. The other was this year. They should take back Favre for 1 more season as the starter. Brett can give his salary to Aaron Rodgers and Rodgers can re-sign with the pack after the season, and Favre can either retire again or be traded. I would think Rodgers wouldn't mind that, he'd make more from Brett's salary than he has his whole career. Win-Win!

He should have thought about his actions before he retired. It put the team at a disadvantage when the draft came around. After the season he had and to retire after that was just weird. One play away from going to the super bowl.

mayo, I don't suppose the Packers prepared anticipating that Favre would be the quarterback. Yet Rodgers was able to step in and run the game plan relatively effectively. Two different styles of quarterbacks. How many reps you think he had in practice that week? Preparation works both ways. Dallas wasn't the only team to prepare for something different.

I just got back from an emergency stockholders meeting in Green Bay (I own a share so I was invited). The new plan is to trade Favre AND Rodgers to Dallas for Romo. The theory is that we will have a quarterback that doesn’t have to worry about the cost of gas to commute to work and will be able to focus on making the team better. Sounded good to me, so I voted for it.

But, then, he got hurt that week in practice and was out for a couple of weeks prompting Green Bay to re-sign Craig Nall (since Brett suffered a "stinger" in the Oakland game; essentially leaving the Packers potentially QB'less since they released 3rd string QB Ingle Martin during the final roster cuts of the preseason.

There's nothing in Favre's contract which says he'll be a Packer until he's done for good. It was implied when he signed the contract that would be a Packer until he is done was because of the length of the contract. There's nothing in his contract that states he can never play for another team.

It was only a matter of time before he asked to be released. He knows Thompson doesn't want him there. It'll be difficult for him to be released unconditionally considering the Packers have him under contract for 2 more years, but Favre may just have to pay off one of those years (or his new team will) and he'll get released.

His decision to retire came in March, right after football season. His body was sore, we had come so far only to lose etc. I think that right now, Brett Favre is feeling that remorse/regret that we all feel when we want to be doing something, but aren't. Right now, Favre would be training for the upcoming season. He's not. I think that has got to really burn someone who loves the game like he does. I don't know if he'd come back, I'd love to see it, though. But, on the same note, we all have to face the fact that someday Brett Favre has to leave.

1--Despite ESPN being a national media outlet, they are so wrong. Brett won't go to either of those teams (Ravens or Bucs). Why? 5 words. West Coast offense and Superbowl.
2--Brett is under contract until 2011. He even has a clause in his contract, with those in the NFL calling it "historic", that he will always be a Packer. All of this so-called wishy washy-ness is nothing more than a way for the media to muster up more ratings and traffic to their websites. The poor guy barely had street clothes back on following the Giants game and the MEDIA was asking "Brett, are you coming back next year?" Good Lord, people. It's 2008...not 2011.

All right momof5, in your first post you say he will be back & now you tell us that you will be on a plane w/Mike tomorrow so maybe you have inside information? Cool, I so hope that Brett will be back for just one more year. We came so close last year, I just couldn't believe it when he announced his retirement.

No doubt Brett was great, but lets face it every team in history that has been at the top eventually must rebuild. Have a good ride with Mcathy cause it still comes down to a rebuilding the road from base up.

mom2marlal: you don't know Brett then if you think that he feels he is the best thing that has ever happened to football. He loves to play the game. It's not about ego, pride or money with Brett. It's about the love of the game. Brett and Deanna are so humble and down to Earth; they have NO idea the impact they have on people. As far as in the early part of the decade and his thumb: perhaps he should have sat out. It's always easier to make the calls sitting on the couch. But, no matter how much Brett stomped his feet and said he could start, if the team docs or the coaching staff felt he would hurt the team and/or himself more then shame on them for letting Brett play. Besides, I don't believe for one second that that was the case. Brett doesn't have the unilatral decision making ability that so many think he has been afforded on Lombardi Avenue. And, before you say "you don't know either." Yes I do. This time tomorrow I will be on a plane with Mike McCarthy.

It will be a mistake for Brett to come back. I love Brett and all he did for Green Bay, but he did retire the right way, on HIS own terms and healthy. If he comes back he could get seriously injured, he always gets hit hard, and he's nearly 40.

Too many players have retired and then come back, look at Reggie White....he should have stayed retired too.

I agree with Ben Vobian from the story. Without Brett, the Packers wouldn't have been able to lure Reggie White from the Eagles....and win Superbowl XXXI. Without Brett, the Packers will not be able to recruit or retain another high profile key player.

They were one player away last year......add Taylor to the mix with Brett at the reigns and I can feel a happy dance in the streets of Tampa on January 31 coming on.....

I can't stand the fact that not only does he think he is the best thing that ever happened to football, but so many 'Packer fans' think the same thing. Even when he was injured and it would have been better for the team if he didn't play a game or two, he thought he was the only one who could get the job done. I am a Packer fan, but I know one person does not make a team. I really hope he stays in retirement and I hope the Packers have a great season w/o him!

tallman: um, ok. All I will say is that you're right. Brett's a has been. He led the YOUNGEST team in the NFL to the NFC Championship game. I know. I know. He threw the interception that "cost" them the game. There were 4 other quarters of football; that game never should have came down to one pass. And, let's not forget that Corey Webster did not run the ball back for any points. The Packers defense "let" the Giants march right down the field into scoring territory. But, yeah, he's a has been. Thanks for the laugh.

Rodgers will get more playing time this year, but it won't be as a starter. (But with more playing time, there will also be more time on the DL.).

What a joke, a has been that cannot stand to see the team move on and rebuild without him. I hope Rogers and the other stand-by quarterbacks leave and let Brett run the show right into interceptions and more slow moving in the backfield!!
