I was being robbed a few years back. There were a few punks stealing stuff out of my shed. I called the police, they said they'd have someone there right away, so I waited. fifteen minutes went by and the punks were still leaving and coming back. I called back and told them to hurry, they were still around and could catch them. The operator was rude, saying there was no big hurry.
So I waited ten more minutes, called her back and said "No big hurry...I just shot them both" - They were there 2 minutes later, and caught the thieves in the act.

Gazettefan: While I cannot speak (or type) for others, I for one am neither condoning or discounting the illegal act of prostitution. Where my "beef" lies is with consistency.

If Chief Mahan is going to recommend that the Halbach's liquor license be revoked, then so be it. And, if the advisory committee approves that recommendation, then so be that too. However, when establishments with KNOWN poor track records and frequent police visits are allowed to continue exercising poor judgement with little to no consequence, that is a greater problem than so booty shakin' and a little "bump-n'grind."

I would bet you a dollar to a donut (on sale or not) that the MAJORITY of bars in Janesville have had MORE calls dispatched than MeeMee's. But, yet, they continue to have their license....

Having been a "victim" of burglary here in janesville and seeing how our "detectives" investigate, I have NO use for the police in Janesville. They took the report and that was it. I myself tracked down the fools who broke in. They were stupid enough to use my computer and I was able to trace them. Even then the police took a cum se cum sa attitude. So youre right I wont tell them anything, it goes in one ear through that vast hollow space and out the other.

If you don't tell the police then how do you know they know? "Someone" must have told them? What do you base that on since you couldn't be bothered?

Maybe they think that would make them a “snitch”. It could be that they don’t really think these activities are a problem just as they seem to think the prostitution at Sreamin’ Meemee’s is not a problem.
Could it be that the police don’t seem to care about the problems at other venues because they haven’t enough evidence when people who witness what goes on won’t come forward with some?
How does illegal activity at one venue justify illegal activity at another?
Isn’t claiming without proof that the police have a “vendetta” against the Halbach’s but condone by their inaction the illegal activities of others a baseless rationalization and slander against the police?
If it’s wrong to judge the Halbach’s based on circumstance, innuendo and incomplete evidence, isn’t it wrong to judge the police on those same bases? At least, in the case of the Halbach’s, some facts are known.

good point momof5. i think that is exactly what it is. and your point about the bars are dead on. i stated earlier that i was in legends a few weeks ago and was asked, right in front of a bunch of people, if i wanted to buy some "powder". This is going on all the time, and at more bars than just legends, and the police and/or city officials dont seem to care. Meemees is a dump i agree with most on that and should probably be closed down. However, the city seems to have a vendetta agaist halbach. Just wondering...
Regardless of the "level" of prostitution going on, and regardless of the "bad choices" being made by "desperate" women, does anyone on this page really feel --honestly feel-- that our community is a better place because of Screemin' MeeMee's? I don't know the Halbach's or their manager, but I do know that despite all of the bickering on this page, no one REALLY believes that a strip club (or a brothel) is an asset to any community. I know that there will be arguments made by some--probably Nurse--which will probably include things like "they're really good people" or "what about their civil liberties"? And I'm sure that these people are "really good" and I fully support civil liberties. But these arguments fail to address the fact that the Halbach's own a business that (in my opinion) can be adequately summarized as being the largest toilet in Janesville. Not only does it prey on desperate women, it has degraded the neighborhood. I grew up not far from there, and a lot of my childhood memories include walking down to Springbrook Grocery with my sisters to get a candybar, or some baseball cards--never to get a lapdance. Now I know that the Halbachs were well within their rights to open a strip club, but there is no denying that they did so without any concern for that community.

Just because your charged with a crime doesn't make you guilty. What happened to innocent until proven guilty. I am no fan of strip clubs or prostitution, but innocent until proven guilty remanins to be seen. Yes the girls got off mostly with little or no consequences, i an curious to see what the outcome will be.

good post billnewbie. prolly the best ive read on why prostitution is where it is. i accept that im a criminal in the eyes of the law. i dont feel i SHOULD be, but i most def will go to jail if arrested and most def will tell the judge the same things i say here. most def the judge may not give a s**t, but he may. i dont completely agree with your point about not having legal choices. we have an absolute legal rite to take the proper steps and try to change the law. doesnt always work, the feds are STILL arresting medical marijuana smokers in CA, even tho they took the proper/legal steps at the state level to make it legal, but we do have the rite. reminder again about how many people were breaking the law during alcohol prohibition to eventually get that ridiculous law changed. legal/illegal does not define right/wrong or moral/immoral. at all.

The johns and the managers (owners included) take advantage of these women. They view these women as disposable commodities who, when they are used up (or wise up), can be easily replaced with an endless supply of fresh, younger and just as easily exploited women.
We decided as a state and country a long time ago to write laws prohibiting the commercial sexual exploitation of people whether those people are willing participants or not. Those laws have been circumvented to some degree over the years by courts that have determined that nude gyrations against a pole, among other practices, is legally protected speech, but they have yet to strike down those laws that prohibit sexual contact for money, despite the fact that there may be a thin layer of cloth, or even a condom, between the participants.
Just as with marijuana, prostitution is illegal and we are compelled (that means we have no legal choice, thekid3477) to obey the law whether we agree with it or not and to do otherwise makes one a criminal whether one accepts that or not.

I've said what I've had to say and I am NOT saying it again. You have your views, I have mine. Let's agree to disagree and leave it that.
