— A teen seriously injured May 2 while “car surfing” in a Janesville parking lot has been moved from Mercy Hospital to a rehabilitation facility.

Nathan Rosenow, 17, a junior at Parker High School, was transferred Thursday to a facility near Madison, his friend Michael Mayfield said.

“He is awake and moving. Moving a lot,” Mayfield said. “He responds to what you say. He will hug you if you ask him for a hug.”

Police reports written shortly after the accident quote a Mercy Hospital emergency room doctor as saying that Rosenow of 2017 S. Crosby, Janesville, had severe head trauma, bleeding in his brain and skull fractures.

Rosenow’s stepmother, Vickie Rosenow, said Nathan’s move to a rehabilitation center was “very good news,” but she declined to comment further.

Rosenow turned 17 on Sunday.

Jason T. Klein, 17, of 1237 S. Arch St., Janesville, has been charged with causing injury by reckless driving. He is free on a signature bond but is prohibited from driving until the case is settled or his bond conditions are amended.

Klein was driving a sport-utility vehicle in the large parking lot at the northwest corner of Center and Kellogg avenues in Janesville on Friday night when Nathan jumped in and on the vehicle in two separate stunts, according to the criminal complaint against Klein.

Rosenow fell off the vehicle during the second stunt, according to police records.

Klein is scheduled to appear in court July 15, according to online court records.

I think its sad that kid is getting charged. I remember being that age and having my friends do stupid stuff like car surfing. But im sure the person driving did tie him up there and force him to do it. Now that kid could go to jail.

Hannah,
On Friday May 23rd, Joey was transferred to Shriner's Hospital in Cincinnati. Kristi, Scott and Scott's mother are there with him. He had a surgery on his hand last Thursday. There is talk of removing the ventilator soon.
There will be fundraisers for the family on June 28th. I know one is a steak fry with raffles and auctions at the Beloit Moose Lodge.

What part of this article is fictional? He has been transferred and he is doing much better. Sure he has a long way to go, but he's improving!

hannah:
As far as I know, one or two of our reporters have tried to get in touch with the family for an update. I think they've run into some obstacles, but I'm sure they'll keep working on it.
