Sunday crash kills Janesville man
CENTER TOWNSHIP A Janesville man was killed and a Fort Atkinson woman injured after a one-car rollover in Center Township on Sunday morning, according to a news release from the Rock County Sheriff's Department.
Jason D. Roettger, 33, of 4722 Graham Drive, was killed after he apparently lost control of his car around 1 a.m. on a curve on County H east of Mineral Point Road, according to the release. Investigators believe Roettger’s car was westbound on County H when it drifted onto the shoulder and Roettger overcorrected, causing the car to cross the centerline and slide into the ditch.
The car overturned, pinning Roettger and a passenger, Kathleen L. Simon. Orfordville and Footville EMS extricated both.
Roettger was pronounced dead on the scene. Simon was transported to Mercy Hospital where she was in fair condition Sunday night. Neither was wearing a seatbelt.
Police believe alcohol and speed both were factors in the accident, the release said.
