A light parade kicked off the holiday season as part of the 2007 Sugar, Spice and Ice Fest in downtown Janesville on Saturday evening.

Janesville Leisure Services, in collaboration with the Downtown Development Alliance, hosted the event. Several downtown facilities were used during the event, including the Ice Skating Center and the Senior Center.

The parade began at the intersection of High and Wall streets, proceeded south on High Street, east on Milwaukee Street and south on Main Street, ending at the Senior Center parking lot.

Following the parade, children visited with Santa and took part in holiday-themed activities.

In addition to the parade, the event also featured a craft fair, kids entertainment, an ice skating show, and carriage and wagon rides through the downtown area.

I thought the event was way cool! Yeah! Thank gosh we have something like this. Its just too bad the down town businesses or city doesn't decorate the downtown up with decorations like in the old days! It would have looked even more festive!

This was at least the third year. It was announced in a Gazette article (incorrectly for the starting location). There were at least two ads in the paper too. It was on the front of the city's website. I think we have to go with "out of the loop", but I will give you that it was not very well advertised. Better publicity would have helped, but that will come with more years of the event.

I also had no clue this was going on.
Go figure that Janesville actually has something like this and no one knows about it!

I live downtown and had no idea this happened, am I out of the loop or was there just no advertising?
