By Ted Sullivan ( Contact )   October 3, 2008 - 3:42 p.m.

ELKHORN -- A second-grade Walworth Elementary School teacher arrested in the school parking lot on a cocaine possession charge pleaded not guilty Friday.

Katie M. Luessenhop, 26, Delavan, was arrested Sept. 18 after police were called to the school for a disturbance, Walworth police said.

Luessenhop remains free on a $5,000 signature bond.

She is scheduled to be in court next Nov. 5.

Pleading not guilty is not the same as claiming innocence. She is pleading not guilty to the charges that were brought against her, most likely at the advice of an attorney. This could indicate that something was not right about the charges, a tactic to cast doubt upon the charges, or a tactic to buy time to develop a strategy to discredit the charges, but it most likely was done to help her post bail and delay for a trial.

Innocent until proven guilty. Everybody gets their day in court.

So, what do the rights of the accused have to do with being innocent? Having cocaine on her person or her property, wherever that may be, is like serving alcohol to underage people at your home and insisting that it's not your alcohol.... is it not your house either?

i know people can change alot in 8-10 years but i still cant believe that she would do something like this. the fact that she would become a teacher to the young children does not suprise me but to be in this kind of trouble just blows me away.

I CAN'T BELIEVE she would deny the charges! If the cocaine was in her car she was in possession of it. I take back my original hope that it wasn't hers...she more than likely has a problem and she needs to own up to it. What an idiot for being on school grounds with that crap; what was she doing? A drug deal? I smoke cigarettes and would be MORTIFIED if any of my students saw me smoking; I am a role model and it just looks bad. Her teaching career is over, reputation is damaged and she more than likely will be spending time in jail/prison for this. I have really never understood people and cocaine; what a waste...

Technically possesion could be even if it was in her car. So maybe she had someone in her car and it fell out of their pocket! And magically the police are called to where she is and they just happen to search her car and they find this little baggie with a white residue in it. Just another theory that lots of people use when they get caught (including my coke head ex.)

I believe nurse is correct... If you have it on you, that would be possesion... Doesn't even matter if it wasn't hers or not...

What did Nurse say that is incorrect? IF she had it on her person then she possessed it. By definition she is correct. You people probably believe all the drug users on COPS when they say it's not theirs after the police pull it out of the perps pocket.

Oh, I don't know..maybe the fact that she's a teacher that teaches kids and has it on school grounds. Maybe that would be a reason to care?

Ok genius, help me understand something. Teacher on school grounds and is accused of possession of cocaine. Where did the cocaine come from? The sky? The cocaine fairy? That's fine that she's innocent until proven guilty, but why is the word cocaine even in the story?

If she had it on her person, then she possessed cocaine.
