Beloit Memorial Hospital undergoes expansion
Work is underway this week on an aggressive expansion program at Beloit Memorial Hospital, something that Senior Vice President Tim McKevett says hasn't been done to the emergency room for almost 20 years.
McKevett says the work will be done in three phases. The first will be the physical expansion of the ER. The next step is the remodeling of the current ER facilities. The final phase will be a new entrance and waiting room.
New and additional technologies, including a CT Scanner, will be part of the upgrade. Other features are additional bays for ambulances, a "decon" room for persons exposed to hazardous materials, a reconfigured parking lot with additional parking for ER patients, and a new "heli-pad" closer to the building.
As if all of that isn't enough, Beloit Memorial Hospital will now be a training ground for ER doctors. The UW Hospital in Madison is starting one of the first outreach ER physician residency programs in the state, at Beloit.
If the project stays on schedule, it should be completed by the summer of 2010.

Hey mrmeadc. I think your problem is you went to the wrong place. You went to the old hospital building on Olympia. It's now a retirement home. Beloit hospital is awesome. Their leadership and personnel are great. A professionally ran hospital, and it is well maintained.Sorry they do not take doggies.

For about a year our family had insurance with BMH and the care was awesome! We all loved it, a son had surgery and my wife had pre-natal care. My only complaint was they were not large enough. There is only one clinic in Jnaesville and we had a son who needed stitches. 10 miles may not seem that far, but it might as well be 1,000 miles when you have a hurt or scared child. Once we were there everything was fine. If our insurance allowed and we lived closer we would go back to BMH.

Remember that "baby-boomers" are hitting retirement age and have increasing health concerns. In addition to the national economy forcing more people to work later in life (causing more health problems), many boomers will have to work to make up for the cut-off of the illegal immigrant work force which (insert lying candidate name of choice) will stop when elected President.
.
Perhaps the Beloit hospital management hopes to grab some business south of the city which would otherwise go to Rockford, to make up for the business they will lose when Dean Care's hospital is built on the south side of Janesville.

Mrmeadec: No, I don't work at the Beloit hospital and have never worked anywhere in Beloit since my high school days many, many moons ago. But if the facility was ever in need of an addictions RN/social worker, I would apply in a New York second. P.S. I would even counsel your dog if asked.

I do work there and am very proud of it. There is good and bad in every place not just hospitals. I can truly say the majority of employees that work there do so because they "want" to not because it is just a job. They "care" about what they do and that shows. And if someone has a "bad" experience at Beloit and care enough to contact someone to let them know, I believe it is addressed and a positive way to "fix" the experience is reviewed and acted on if possible. Hence, the renovation to the ER department.... they are SO busy they need to expand to keep up with the growing needs of the community! THANKS BELOIT for caring about the needs and overall health of the community we live in....

Had both my children there and was 100% satisfied! My first was 20+ hours of labor with an emergency C-section. Cannot find one complaint. People joke about "hospital food", well, I'm a decent cook and I wanted to stay longer. Their food was great and someone else was preparing it other than me. :) The atmosphere was very homelike (for a hospital) and the "husband/wife" dine-together supper was my favorite both times there. The staff was very attentive and caring. My children were WELL cared for and are happy, healthy kids. I live in Janesville and have told my EMT friend that if they ever get called to our house, he knows which hospital to take my family to. THUMBS UP BELOIT!!!

When I was pregnant with my twins I received the best care at Beloit Memorial. One of my twins was born silently and all the staff from the doctors to housekeeping were very compassionate. My doctor held my hands and supported me through my spinal and she explained everything to my husband and I as it happened. My patient advocate was amazing and took pictures that I never thought to take. I am so thankful to her to have pictures of my little girl that I lost. I can't say it enough how wonderful they all were. I go to Mercy now because of insurance but look forward to going back to Beloit in the future. I live in Beloit and would rather stay in my own community.

Long_Time_Gone, it isn't the expansion of facilities that raises costs. The facilities are just capturing medical expenditures, which are decided by the insurance companies. The industry countrywide is in the midst of a major expansion with revenue doubling over the next ten years:
.
US Health Care Spending to Double to $4.1 Trillion by 2016 - 20 Cents of Every 5 Dollars Spent
http://www.metrics2.com/blog/2007/02/21/...
.
With that many dollars rolling in, an organization would be foolish to ignore an opportunity to be one of the places they're spent.

Mercy plans expansion, Beloit plans expansion, a new hospital in planned in Edgerton, Fort Atkinson just remodeled and expanded, St. Mary's in Madison more than doubled in size, the Children's hospital at the UW Hospital is brand new, and Dean wants a new huge hospital near Janesville's southside - all within a 50 mile radius of each other.
*
And people complain about the cost of health care?

Way to go, Beloit! That hospital is my favorite in the whole region. Great personal care from all areas: doctors, nurses, receptionists, therapists, dietary staff, maintenance staff, aides, lab staff, volunteers, etc., etc.
