Traveler safety number almost ready
MADISON, Wis. (AP) Wisconsin transportation and emergency management officials have nearly finished work on a number that travelers can call for information about the weather and route closures.
According to a new report from the state Department of Military affairs, Wisconsin's 5-1-1 system should be online by November. Travelers will be to call it to get emergency notifications, directions and information on driving conditions.
Thirty-four states already have similar systems. The systems have taken 95 million calls to date.

Sounds like a great idea; I'm looking forward to trying it out. Although if it charges a fee then I will probably just stick with internet anyway.
