Gazette, is there anything I could do to help? I'm in the business, local, and have a great deal of experience with server farms, switches, routers, network storage arrays, and backup servers. I'm not much help with development though, just basic HTML/XML/JAVA experience. Send me an email if I could help. For those that would create mischief, I would only respond to emails from the Gazette domain, and I will check the routing............Thanks

Maybe it’s just me, and nobody else thinks it is silly that GazetteXtra.com
gives us such a GREAT forum to say whatever we want, yet so many people seem to “Bite the hand that feeds you”. Stop your bashing. I have no affiliation with the Janesville Gazette or GazetteXtra.com, but some of you don’t have any respect at all for the people who provide this place for us. Express your opinions and have fun but please, have some respect the people who let you do so. Whatever the “computer” problem is, it will get a fix. Just my opinion.

gary....I wish I worked with you. My days would be so much more enjoyable.
I just take peoples' mouse balls and watch them try to figure out why their icon doesn't move across the screen.
Or watch them try to reboot their system by pressing their monitor power button.

Go to Start> Run> and open regedit. Now start deleting anything that looks suspicious. Your virus problems will no longer be a concern.

To lauriejnsvll; The only way I was able to get rid of Antivirus XP was to use SpyBot Search and Destroy. Download free from their website; install it on your hard drive and then have it scan for viruses and spy/malware.

Maybe the IT dept. is too busy deleting the comments people post instead of maintaining the computer system.

No, none of us have jobs. We just sit all day long playing with the free computers and enjoying the free broadband that the Federal Department of Slackerism provides for us. It's a good deal. You should check it out.

I also had Anivirus XP on my computer. It is spyware and very difficult to remove from a computer. Our techie at work told me about SpyBot Search and Destroy; it's a free program and was able to remove Antivirus XP. It takes awhile to scan your computer, but I feel its worth it.

Maybe the Gazette should hit the Ctrl, Alt, Del. key one more time. The Virus hit the Madison area also. The new virus is "AntiVirus XP 2008" Don't ever open it !!

Pwrtrip, again I suggest you stick to commenting about what you know. I've worked as a network technician for a billion-dollar company and even if you have a backup system you need to get it up and running and ensure that it works properly with the rest of the network. The Gazette is communicating with its customers, which is the important thing.

Ok..your telling me there is no backup PC that can be used? WOW~! After your done evaluating your PCs, evaluate your IT staff/person. One should always have a backup, even in a network failure there shouldne be a problem.

Older people aren't used to using the computer for reading news. People out of range of inexpensive broadband Internet access find it easier to get the paper version. People can take it to work where they don't have Internet access and read it on their breaks. It's less costly to accidently drop the Gazette in the bathroom than it is to drop a laptop.
