Referendum fails in Town of Fulton
A referendum to increase the tax levy for next year by 62 percent failed by a vote of 613-120 on Tuesday.
The town board was asking residents to increase the tax levy for next year by 62 percent.
Under state law, a municipality can raise its tax levy by only 2 percent or the percentage of new growth in the community in 2009 unless it holds a referendum.
The town estimates the 62 percent increase in the levy would have added $116 in taxes on a $100,000 home. That homeowner paid $183 in town taxes in 2008 and would have paid about $299 in 2009 had the referendum passed.

I served on a local government for a while. The most complaints I heard during that time were about the streets and roads in front of their homes or the ones they drove on frequently. It looks like it’s the same everywhere. Most people want things perfect but few are willing to pay for it. Meanwhile, the non-doers fire cheap shots at the doers.

The entire town board should resign over this issue. They tried to slip it through quietly during a primary that had no interest. The facts are that there is plenty of money available to the town to fix roads but they wanted to almost double the town budget. This is the town board with the highest salary schedule in Rock county.

People (other than farmers) live in these rural areas because they fancy themselves rugged individualists who don't need "gummint" picking their pockets and telling them what to do.
.
So, since the referendum failed, I guess they're just gonna roll up their sleeves and fix them dang roads themselves . . . and then go get an alignment and some new shocks on their pickup trucks.

"Can anybody fill me in?"
.
That's what they wanted to do to the holes in the roads...but the referendum failed.
.
So if you live in Fulton Township...the answer is no.
