Lucky Images
When I photograph an event it often takes one of two routes. It always begins with the creative brainstorm. What can I do here to make this look interesting? I'll line up shots in my head and remember points I need to take pictures from. These are what I call "safety shots." I get what I work for.
But occasionally something unexpected happens, and when the shutter goes off, all I can do is pray the image was in focus and correctly exposed. Sometimes it isn't (these moments are often followed by short periods of depression).
Sometimes they are in focus. These are ALWAYS my favorite images. When I get these, I feel like I'm a real photographer, not just a lowly intern.
I have a long ways to go.
PS: it feels lonely being the only intern here. Ryan is missed.

It stinks watching the Gazette from the sidelines.
Hope all is going well for everybody in the newsroom. Wish I was there.

Sorry you are lonely Matthew. I wanted to tell you I have enjoyed seeing your photography since you joined the staff. I've seen you out and about at several local events and always look forward to see what you shot.
